Transvaginal U/S Questions

For you ladies who have already had your u/s or for those who have in previous pregnancies, was DH allowed in the room when you had your transvaginal ultrasound?

I only ask because I read a post on the 1st Tri board that said she had one but DH wasn't allowed in the room. I am curious as to why this might be? I mean, there's nothing down there he hasn't seen before. I would assume DH would be looking at the monitor and up by my head anyway so it's not like there would be anything to see. In my situation DH is leaving work early to come to the first ultrasound and I know we would both be really sad if we couldn't be together for the first peek at our peanut. TIA!

Re: Transvaginal U/S Questions

  • That is VERY strange IMHO...  I've had a transvag u/s w/both of my pregnancies and DH was there for both.  It wasn't even a thought to NOT have him in the room.  Honestly, if the sonographer asked him to leave, I would leave and go somewhere else...

  • My husband and kids were allowed in! No worries!
  • My DH has always been in the room during u/s, they asked if I wanted him there, and covered my legs with the paper blanket thing.

  • I have never heard that, but in my opinion if I want my DH to be there then he is gonna be there!  I can't imagine a doc would ask a husband (and daddy) to step out of the room for the first ultrasound!

  • Okay thanks ladies, that makes me feel better! I am already nervous about everything and the idea of not having DH there was not helping. It did seem weird to me, maybe it was just some quirk of that poster's doctor's office or something.

  • That may be something dependent on your dr's office.

At the practice I'm going to, H is *allowed* to go to any and all appointments if he wants.  When I called and asked the nurse seemed really excited that DH wanted to go and is able to go to every appointment.  I guess not all husbands are able to or want to.  If you're not sure, just call and ask.  But I don't see why not.

  • The other thing I am thinking of his one time they asked him to leave as they put it in, but called him back once we were ready. Maybe thats what she meant??

Yikes so is it a big production to get it up in there?

It's no big deal,  when I had ultrasounds for IF stuff (DH wasn't there),  the technician just asked me to slide the wand in myself because it was just easier that way.  I was covered with a sheet of paper.  I don't think it would be a problem to have DH in the room.

My husband was allowed in, not a problem.

And no, it isn't a production. It is just like a dildo! haha

  • when I had an u/s at a radiology center last time I was pg, their policy was to NOT let anyone but the patient in...then at the end she asked if I wanted my husband to see, and they brought him back, while I laid there holding the t/v u/s in place.  So, in the end they did let him see.  However, this time had I had my husband with me, he would have been let in no problem.  The u/s was at the doctor's office.  they have no problems with anyone coming in for them.
  • my dh has always gone into each and every appointment that I have had. whether it was just giving blood, vaginal ultrasound all the way thru all my IVF appointments and they have never told him to leave and come back in either.

maybe their was a reason... not sure what that would have been though...???

  • Yes, my DH has been there for every u/s.  Why would the husband/father not be allowed in the room??  It's his baby too!
