Twelve hours straight? I think that's a ridiculous expectation. I can count on one hand how often our DD has slept that long in a straight stretch. I found life got so much easier when I stopped thinking she "should" STTN. Now I just take it as a blessing the occasional night that it does happen.
My DD started sleepin 8:30 pm to 8:30 am at 7 weeks. We realize how lucky we are!
She doesn't even wake to eat?? Wow.
No she doesn't wake at all. I thought at first that my monitor was broken, so I would go in there and check on her all the time, but she was sound asleep! It is fantastic. I guess I get a break at night since she is such a fussy baby.

The only thing I've heard about that book (it was a pedi comment actually) was that the author recommends a very regimented scheduled feeding plan that involves like 4-5 hours between feeds or something.
I haven't read the book though so I could completely be talking out of my a$$.

DS is a pretty awesome sleeper. He STTN from 8 weeks till 4 months (8:30pm to 5am usually). Nowadays he gets up 1-2x per night, still a very good sleeper.
I am becoming less and less convinced that a baby's sleep habits have to do with parenting, unless it involves CIO (not for me). Babies sleep when they sleep....you can encourage good habits, but I don't think you can force the issue, no matter what books you read.
My mom said once, "There are 3 things you can't force a child to do: Eat, Sleep and Poop. The less you try to control, the more success you'll have."
Re: Twelve hours of sleep by twelve weeks old.
i never read that book but i dont see what harm it can do. If its not for you then dont implement it.
My DS slept 8 hours by 12 weeks and i praised God for that.

12 hours of sleep - sure! In a row? Probably not.
