At first we thought it was blood, took LO to pedi, said it was crystals caused by dehydration, and to feed more, I EBF and offer the boob all weekend and cosleep- allowing him to nurse pretty much all night. What else can i do? Pedi suggested solids, i was hesitant at first since he is not even 5 mos, but we decided to try some mashed sweet potato and BM. Any advice? I am back at work today and this afternoon it showed up, i dont think he is eating enough, what do i do? He takes the bottle fine. Ped suggested pedialyte tonight. This has happened a bunch of times over the last few months, usually going away after a few hours, but they sent us for a sono of his bladder and kidneys on saturday just to make sure its not anything else.. anyone expereince this? could it be my diet? should i be drinking as much water as possible? any advice, TIA!
Re: Advice please, high urine concentration.. red in diapers..
I don't really see how starting solids will help? What was the reasoning?
Is it possibly blood? Did the sonogram show anything?

Ditto luvlie - I don't see how starting solids would get him more hydrated, personally. I'd think it'd keep him from wanting as much milk and make him less hydrated.
Do you have any idea how your supply is? Did the pedi have anything to say about # of wet/poopy diapers? I'd drink plenty of water, but that's just a good idea for BFing in general and may help you up your supply a bit.
Pedi suggested veggies with high water concentration, so to stick to yellow and orange veggies, wanted to start with squash but my local store only had organic sweet potato, and I am not replacing meals but giving to him after he is fed, he still stuck to the boob like a magnet all weekend even after a little food.
I think my supply is good, but this is my first go around so I dont know what is considered good. So far at work I have pumped 2 times today and have about 13 oz. Once I get home I nurse him. He has at least 6 wet dipes a day and now is down to 1 or 2 pooy dipes.
he is taking about 4-6 bottles while I am at work about 3-4 oz each, does this sound right? he usually finishes them sometimes he leave a bit, my hubby who is home will generally offer more like an oz or 2 after just to see if he is still hungry.
We had a urinanlysis done and it just showed that he has a high concentration of uric acid, no blood.
Did they test for lead or mercury poisoning?
Also could it be something in the water that you are washing the diapers with? Has it happened in sposies too?

hmm..does he show any other signs of dehydration? sunken soft spot? no tears? sallow skin? lack of wet/poopy diapers?
i'd call an ibclc.
