Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Worried about a couple of months from now..

So, we have DS sleeping in his swing in the living room right now. His crib is in our room, as we're in a 1 bedroom.

He hated his crib from when we brought him home from the hospital, and I figured he liked the swing better because it's more enclosed and makes him feel safe and cozy. I have no problem with this right now; however, the worry I have is in a couple of months from now when he gets too big for his swing and we want him in his crib, he won't go...

We do try and get him in his crib for a couple of naps every day...

For moms who have been there, do you have any tips or suggestions?

  • You will definitely want to try some sort of sleep training when he is old enough.  We are currently doing Ferber (my LO is quite a bit older than yours) but there are several methods that get used around here.  I am sure there will be one that works for you when the time is right.

  • At 3 weeks let him sleep where he wants to sleep.  In a few weeks try to introduce the crib for naps.  You can't create a bad habit this early.
  • We had the same problem when we tried to put DD in her basinette the 1st night. But because I am afraid of her getting used to the cozy chair we have I put her in the basinette the other day for a nap, and no problem. That night I put her in the basinette for the night and she cried so much. So the next night I tried again and she slept fine... it's been 2 nights in a row in her basinette, just try to make it cozy and warm... that's what they like

Exactly.  He is brand new!  There are so many potential things to "worry" about ... just go with the flow.  Everything will work out!

  • Just keep trying, I know how easy it is to admit defeat when LO starts screaming, but although it may take a couple nights or weeks of trying, he will eventually do it. My LO was still sleeping in his bouncer at your sons age bc I decided he didn't like the bassinet after only trying a few times. Now he's sleeping in his crib in his own room!

Swaddling and our seahorse really helped us.

  • At 3 weeksold, I wouldn't worry too much about him developing bad nap habits yet.  That's just my opinion!  We let ours sleep wherever for the first 6 weeks (on us, in swing, bouncy seat, etc.).  Then, I started putting them down in their cribs once they were more on a schedule at 7/8 weeks.  The transition was fine, and they're doing it very consistently now.
  • I wouldnt stress to much your LO is very young.  We had DD sleep in her carseat until she was 7 weeks old then we moved her to her crib and we had no problem.  Babies just like the be cozy at that age.  DD is now 11 weeks old she still naps in her swing because its easy but she sleeps every night in her crib no problems.
