DS started daycare several weeks ago and he loves it, plays the whole time he's there and never cries anymore even when I drop him off! It's a home daycare with 6 kids ranging in age from 11 months (DS is the youngest) to 5 years. This woman has an excellent reputation and I am very happy with this place except for one problem: at home DS naps for 2 hours but at daycare he only takes a 45-60 minute nap because he is always awakened by the other kids making noise, and she doesn't take the older kids outside or try to keep them quiet when the younger kids are napping. It's a small house so there's no place she could put him to nap in peace anyway. DS really needs his naps or he gets cranky if he doesn't nap enough and he is a kid who plays hard and sleeps hard. Do you think he will learn to nap longer there or should I try to find another daycare that has the space for kids to nap in quiet?
Re: Daycare question about naps
this is one of the reasons i dislike in-home centers... because kids of varying ages can create problems. I certainly would NOT want her to take the other kids outside while my child was inside napping!
if you really like the daycare - give it some time... but I personally prefer daycare centers where children are in a room with only children their age.
I just posted about the same issue earlier this week. I think the consensus was that it might not be better anywhere else, so if this is the only issue, it's probably best to suck it up and push through.
FWIW, I can definitely sympathize. DD is cranky and/or crying every night after DC because she doesn't nap long enough.
Really? What problems besides naps?
this was Carson when he first started an inhome daycare center at 13 months old. he was there 2 days a week and it took him about 6 weeks to learn to nap around other kids for a whole 2 + hours. at first he would maybe nap for one hour but it got better with time.
however, all the kids napped at the same time. there were not older kids running around. i would think eventually your dc will learn to sleep through the noise. give it more time.
