Those with children > 1

What did you do/where did you have your children's 1st Birthday parties?

I am in the brainstorming phase, and would appreciate your ideas.

  • Or what are some of the most enjoyable parties you and your LO have been to.

    Thank you!

  • We did first birthday parties for both kids at home.  With the exception of one at Gymboree, all of the first birthday parties we have attended have been at home.

  • We had both first birthday parties at home also.

  • We had ours at home as well.  I think it was a lot less overwhelming for DS having the party in a familiar place.

  • Just another vote for Home.  ALL the people around for a 1st Birthday really is quite enough for a little one to handle, much less trying to do any sort of activities.

  • Home here too.  We only invited family.
  • We're probably going to do C's at home as well.
  • We did ours at home with family and a few close friends with kids.  We had fajitas and margaritas, etc.  It was low key but more fun for the adults :)
  • Since so many attendees were parents with babies of about a year (or less), my most important priority was keeping everyone indoors, and with a 50+ person guest list, I couldn't fit everyone inside....so we had my DD's at an indoor playplace (that's since gone out of business) that was geared specifically towards the 2 and under crowd. Everyone who attended had a great time.

I've actually only thrown 1 party (out of DD's 4 total) at home (her second, which was carnival themed--and mostly outdoors), and it was by far the most stressful because on top of the party planning element, I had to also get my house clean from top to bottom (no easy feat)!

But I will readily admit I am a bit extreme when it comes to parties. I just can't help it...I LOVE it!

  • Everyone we know (including ourselves) did 1st Bday at home.  2nd bday we did at the YMCA.

  • Thank guys... That's what I figured.  I really want to have it at home, but I just dont think we have enough room to accomodate everyone comfortably.  Especially if it was a rainy day.

I am thinking about renting our neighborhood clubhouse.  It would be $100 but I think well worth it to not have to clean my house before and after.  Thought about maybe getting a bounce house to entertain the older children in attendance.

  • You might consider getting a friend's housekeeper (if you don't have your own) to come before and after. For the price of renting a place, you can get someone to clean your space. That is, if you prefer having it at home.

We did all the parties at home so far. It has been easier from the standpoint that we're home and comfortable. Things get crazy, kids run around, toys are everywhere, cake crumbs are on the floor - but it all cleans up and they have a blast.

I have someone clean before and then family pitches in to get the party mess cleaned up. That works out very easy.

Have fun with it wherever you decide to throw it. Hard to believe 1 year has passed.

  • We're thinking about having G's at the school where I work.  It is a church school so there's a room geared toward get  togethers and I like that there's a playground right outside to entertain older kids.  I don't think that I have the room for an indoor party at home and I'm anticipating cold weather since his b-day is Dec. 12 so outdoors is out.
  • Also it looks like we'll be having parties around the same time since our kiddos are 1 day apart!

  • I see that!  We are thinking about doing the 11th.  What about you?
