Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleeping vs napping question

DS has been going through this weird pattern the past week. One day he will barely nap, maybe an hour at the most, but that night he'll sleep 8-9 hours straight. Then the next day will take a long nap from around 11-3, and then the next night he'll sleep 9 hours but wake up 3 times within that period to eat. The cycle just keeps repeating every other day.

So since he doesn't sleep straight through on the days that he takes an extremely long nap, should I be cutting off his naps? I know they say not to wake a sleeping baby, but I think the reason why he doesn't sleep straight through is because he sleeps the day away. WWYD?

Re: Sleeping vs napping question

  • my LO is not even close to STTN but i think i read in one of the sleep books not to let them nap longer then 2 hours.  i can't check this second cause i'm pumping & bumping, but since i read that i started waking LO after 2 or 3 hours, depending on how well she slept the night before.  otherwise her "schedule" does get all messed up.
