first workout

Just did my first workout today since I was put on bedrest at 13 weeks (would be 38 weeks now).....I feel great but boy was I tired after! I went to my favorite kickboxing class that I was missing so bad. I now realize what great shape I was in pre-preg and can't wait to get back to that, but I know I need to pace myself. I think I am going to start out only doing 3 workouts/week, probably classes like kickboxing or pilates, and then move on to running again. I really need to work on abs too! I have about 20 lbs to lose and I would LOVE to do it before xmas.  How long does it take to get back into pre-preg shape? What kind of workouts did you find worked the best?

Re: first workout

  • I've been working out since February and I've been mainly running (with weight lifting and ab workouts thrown in there but not intense). I've lost 33lbs running. The baby weight really did melt off once I started running. Cardio is awesome :)

Good for you for getting back to working out!

  • i started jogging almost immediately after giving birth (i had an easy, uncomplicated vaginal birth). 7 weeks and 24 pounds later, i'm still only up to 2 miles, but i feel really good. i'm hoping i can just keep this up and lose the last 10 pounds that way. once i get back to my pre-preg weigh, i'll probably need to do some serious ab stuff too though. . .
  • I had to wait until about 3.5 months (baby is now 5 months) to start working out.  I had gall bladder surgery (also had a hernia removed at 2 months pp).  Eliptical machine for 30 minutes and then treadmill (Walk/run) for 30 minutes two times a week. My schedule was out of wack because I also have a teenager and 3 year old twins, and my DH and I have been trying to accomodate our active schedule.

I just started my triathalon training today - 6 weeks with pilates included.

I want to see if I can beat my time from last year.  I hope so as I was pregnant about 18 weeks when I completed it.
