Nipple question-on bottles

My daughter is 4 weeks old.  She is bottle fed, both breastmilk and formula.

Lately she has been fussy at the bottle and making these mad noises.  Sometimes she collapes the nipple.

I thought that the slow flow nipples should be used until 3 months.  Isn't she way too young to move to the next level?

Re: Nipple question-on bottles

  • what kind of bottles are you using?  I know when my son gets fussy with the bottle it is usually because he needs to burp.  We were using the medela bottles and nipples and he would collapes them but I think that just happens due to how the nipple is formed on them.  We also use playtex bottles and they do not collapes because the nipple is shorter and wider. hth

  • We try burping her and nothing...  We use Playtex VentAire bottles.
  • You can move up a nipple size when you feel it is necessary.  I use Avent bottles & I had to move up a nipple size when my twins were 2 weeks old b/c the slow nipple was too slow for them.  Just do what you think is best.

  • I have noticed that when the cap is screwed on to the bottle really really tight that LO will collapse the nipple and be fussy. Try just loosening the cap a tad bit and see if that helps.
