I'm so mad at myself

Seriously, what have I been doing for the past 6 weeks?  I just decided to start working on Caroline's christening this week and it's impossible.  Grrrr!  Maybe if I called places 6 weeks ago, they wouldn't all be booked for the dates we were looking at.  I had 3 places in mind.  The one is just too expensive ($30 per head for 75-100 people + 18% grat & 6% sales tax) and the other two are not available.  Now I'm looking at December dates for the two we can afford and praying that one of them is available for the dates that the church baptizes.

What happened to the organized crazy wedding planner that I used to be?!?!

Re: I'm so mad at myself

  • I can totally sympathize.  Here it is14 1/2 months later and Caroline still isn't baptized!  My mom is beside herself.

  • We just started looking into this for C too. Hopefully you find a place that works for you soon!
  • Holy sh!t.  Getting baptised is expensive.  I had no idea.  I have never been to one and I am not having one for miss K.  I hope you find something asap!
  • Good luck on finding something Natalee!

  • Wait, what?  They charge you??  Why don't you just do it through your church?  Where I go it's free and they just do it after Sunday Mass.  You are asked to make a donation but they don't require one or regulate what it is.
  • In regards to cost. I'm pretty sure she is talking about the after party.
  • Yes, Ashley is correct: I'm talking about the celebration after the ceremony.  The church only asks for a "donation" for the ceremony, but our families expect a party.

I spoke to the church and we are able to get her baptised on 12/5.  It's a month later than I hoped (actually 2 months from the original plan) but beggars can't be chosers.  I spoke with people from the other two places this evening and they are available on that date, as is the third place.  The one I mentioned above is pricing out to be about $3500 for the minimum 75 ppl and the other two places are about $1K less.  This is one of the downfalls of both me and Brian coming from large, close families.  Anyway, me and Bri have to decide on a place and get a deposit over there tomorrow morning.  I feel so much better!

Now I just have to pray that our family gown fits her at 4+ months of age :)

This was me last month!  I can totally sympathize.  My SIL found a place for 50 euros a head, and it was too much.

  • Wow. Makes me glad we're not doing anything like that. We'd like to have a 'blessing of the child' ceremony, basically like a baptism without all of the religious stuff. A time for the people in our lives to state their intentions to support her and celebrate her. But it would probably be more like 20-30 people and we wouldn't have a banquet hall or anything, maybe lunch at a restaurant. No immediate plans to do it though, just an idea.

  • Can you just have something at your house? It was so much cheaper for us having it catered.
