Maternity clothes - best place to shop

Hi gals, I'm thinking about my wardrobe for the next 7 months. I need to wear business casual to work, and I think I'm also going to be in maternity clothes for the winter holidays. Do any of you have recommendations for good places to shop for maternity clothes? The only place I've looked is old navy, and their stuff just doesn't fit well on me.

Re: Maternity clothes - best place to shop

  • Since i see you are in AA, there is a place on Washtenaw called Once Upon a child.  They are used and cheap, and it's a kids resale store, but they have almost a whole wall of maternity clothes!

You can also find some at the Salvation Army in AA.  I've gotten new ones at Motherhood Maternity in Briarwood.

    Congrats on pregnancy!

  • I've had really good luck buying box lots of maternity clothes on eBay.   I also lucked out on the clearance racks at JCPenney and Sears.  Someone told me about a resale shop on Woodward near 12 mile that's all pregnancy clothes, but I haven't made it there yet and the name escapes me right now.  I planned on going there for a few choice fall/winter clothes for the office, but I'm on bedrest right now and might not need work clothes after all (though I'm hoping I get to go back to work some time soon!).

  • Target, Gap (the maternity is in Baby Gap) was where I got most of my stuff.  I was big on clearance rack shopping.

I got a couple nice things from Ann Taylor Loft if you want something nicer for work.

  • I have bought some stuff at Kohls, Target and Sears. I just ordered some stuff from Old Navy online.  There's a maternity resale shop on Woodward in Royal Oak, between 13 and 14 mile. I got a pair of jeans there the other day.

  • Thank you ladies! Heather I will definitely check out the place on Washtenaw, thanks!

  • When I was pregnant with DS, I got maternity clothes from Motherhood Maternity and Target.  I'm wearing all my old maternity pants right now, but I'll have to pick up a few new shirts.

  • I've bought almost everything at Old Navy and Destination Maternity at Somerset. At ON, I purchased larger sizes in regular women's shirts & dresses and small sizes in their maternity clothing, which tends to run big.  Most of the maternity stuff, except tank tops, didn't fit until I was close to 7 months.  I've had the most luck at DM, which carries brand name maternity clothes like Pea in the Pod as well as Motherhood brand.  It was the only place I could find work pants and jeans that fit, and I've purchased some dresses and tops there too.

  • I love Kohls and got most of my stuff from there
  • ON stuff didn't work well for me either.  Believe it or not I got most of my work stuff at Kohls.  Using coupons & combining that with sales saved me a TON of money.  They have cute basic tops, cords, slacks, sweaters, etc.  For casual nothing beats Gap Maternity IMO.  Their jeans are for sure the best (trust me I tried a lot of different types & only ended up wearing the Gap ones), specifically the boyfriend cut, demi panel.  Gap's basic crewneck long-sleeved shirts with side ruching were what I loved in when not at work.  Motherhood Maternity has good yoga pants for like $20.  They work well for the initial post-partum body also.

Oh, also- I got some empire waist maxi dresses from Old Navy in non-maternity, but one size up from what I normally wear.  I wore those to work at the end when I was in my final month & pants are SUPER uncomfortable at that point.  Those were great for initial post-partum phase, too.
