NBR: Does anyone know anything about selvage jeans?

Am I out of the fashion loop? DH read about them in what I call his "girly man" magazine (Men's Health - I swear it's just like Cosmo), and decided he wanted them. He used my Gap discount to get a pair and they just made it to him. He tried them on for me on webcam today and I think they are absolutely ridiculous. Apparently they are made with extra inches in the inseam so you can cuff them, and then you wear them like this:
No offense if anyone likes this style, but I just think it looks dumb on my DH. I'm also annoyed at him for an unrelated reason, so it's possible that is heightening my irritation with the fact that he just spent what is a lot of money for us to spend on a single item of clothing (even on sale) and it's something that I think looks stupid on him.
