Sooo..Ally is almost 9 month and if there was such thing was a magic mattress that cause several thousand, I would buy it!
Anyhow...we're thinking...maybe she's cold! We put her in a sleep sack this weekend and she still woke up a lot. Then I thought, maybe her arms are cold because she's wearing a s/s onesie, and so I went to Carter's and bought a whole bunch of l/s onesie for her to sleep in with the sleep sack. That didn't work and she woke up even more that night. But then I bought a REALLY thick pj set and last night she only woke up 3 times! 3 times is soooooooooooo much better than 10 times! So we're hoping it's the pj and she's wearing the EXACT same one tonight. So far so good...so we'll see.
Does your kid sleep in pj's (even in the summer)?? When Emmy was a baby, she just wore onesies in the summer time because it was hot. The house is kept at 73 with a ceiling fan on in each room. Is that too cold for a baby? Is it possible this whole time she's just been cold and waking up and I'm just a horrible mom for not knowing it??
I'll honestly take the horrible mom title if this is truly the answer though!
Re: Those with good sleepers...what does/did your baby sleep in?
DD is typically a good sleeper but with teething she's been getting up two or three times a night instead of just once around 5 am.
She wears a long sleeve jammies (the gown kind for easy changes) and a Halo sleep sack. Sometimes I put her in a onesie and one of those zip up Carters sleep bags and she does well with that too.
That's the temp we have it at night as well as the ceiling fan. DS's bed is almost under the air vent so he sleeps with jammies that are l/s and pants. I had been putting him in footy pjs but he out grew them and the next size isn't fitting his correctly right now. He also gets 1-2 flannel receiving blankets on as well. Most of the time i find him that he's swaddled himslef in the blankets or the opposite and has them all kicked off. I touch his feet and hands and if they are cold i recover him . if they are real warm, i just loosely cover his legs.
We've noticed that when he's cold, he tends to scrunch toward the bottom of his bed, like he's trying to get under the covers.
DS will sleep 8-12hrs a night.
With A we had to sleep train her. If you want the details of what we did let me know.
With J, she's swaddled (DD#1 never was) and well she's the most easy-going baby I've ever met and she just sleeps well. I will say that J does not like to be cold...she's in a onesie in a sleep sack with the swaddle wrap around it...nice and toasty!
we didn't do everynthing EXACTLY the same since DH put her to bed last night instead of me (so she didn't finish her bottle of milk). It wasn't better than the night before but it was better than other nights. She woke up 3 times but wouldn't stop crying for over a minute each time. But we think she could be teething and getting her 5th and 6th tooth. Will it ever end??? I'm going to Carter's tonight and getting footed pj's!!!
LOL Lisa! I swear I'm only laughing because you sound just like me, I'm always grasping at straws. If you find the magic pjs would you send me a pair?
Cooper sleeps in long sleeve, footed pjs. Sometimes I throw a blanket over him, sometimes not. For awhile I was convinced that all his sleep issues were because he was hot/cold so I experimented with different blankets, no blanket, etc. It didn't help.
His sleep is getting better though since he started full time daycare. I don't know if the two are related or if he's just finally learning to sleep. He still wakes up a lot but I've had a whole string of nights where he goes down at 9pm, wakes at 12 and 3 and gets up at 7am. I'm sure everyone else is thinking "that's good??!" But I know you understand how awesome this is compared to what's been our norm.
Hmmm..I may send her to day care fulltime in footed pj's if that's the perfect combo for sleep!
The night before last was up every 30 mins and standing with eyes closed from 8:30pm until 10:30pm. Then she woke up a 2am with a small cry and an immediate paci helped. Then she went to 6am when I had to get up for work and it was a perfect night!
Last night was the same 30 min thing until about 10:30pm. Then woke up at midnight and wouldn't stop crying even with a paci and rocking. Then woke up at 4:30pm with the same issue as midnight. So it was better than most night, but the night before, I felt like I won the lotto with the right combo!
I hope it gets better and you all can get some much needed sleep. We went through the same thing last night that you bolded; hoping it's teething related, but I was grasping at straws last night.
Her bedtime is at 7pm because we have to leave the house by 6am. So her dinner is at 5:30 and her bottle is at 7 when she's sleeping. She's not hungry when she wakes up because we have tried feeding her in the past thinking she was hungry (we even did it last night) but she wanted nothing to do with the bottle. It's hopeless...
But I'm still going to Carter's tonight to buy footed pj's and doing a fast spin wash on it!
For Elena, footed pj's are perfect at night but they don't seem to do the trick at daycare. The teachers have asked me at least twice in a month how much does Elena sleep at home because she only takes cat naps when she's with them.
She sleeps through the night (10 pm to 7:30) since she was two months . 99% of nights she doesn't wake up for food or paci. I guess I'm extremely lucky (if only she would nap!)
OMG...how cute is your baby!!!
Yes...I have given her teething tablets and also motrin or tylenol. Honestly...the teething tablet somewhat helps but the nights that I give her meds, it's even worst. She wakes up crying more often. I've done this at least 5-6 times and decided that it doesn't work for her (other than fever). I've also used oralgel which I have learned makes her even more cranky because she doesn't like the numbing feeling. This girl is sooo sensitive to stuff!
Good sleeper with #2 and he wears every conceivable thing to sleep in - except a swaddle. Onsies, pjs, short sleeve, long sleeve. He just sleeps when he needs to or it is bed time.
The other one still needs an elaborate routine.
I bet your mothering is not the root cause. Babies just have their things and their ways, I'm convinced. If she ends up needing warmer clothes another baby will need a cooler sleeping environment for sure - so I doubt it is your judgment that's at fault.
That said, trial and error might yield some better results.
