Babies: 3 - 6 Months

anyone's LOs have a sedated CT scan?

We have to do a sedated CT scan in the upcoming weeks --- it looks like DS has hearing loss (we're going through tons of testing to find out what type, what caused it, etc). One of the tests is a sedated CT...just curious to see your experiences. We have to stay overnight at the hospital b/c he was a preemie (for observation), which I'm not looking forward to at all.

We're just in shock right now and going through so many emotions (guilt, fear of the unknown, etc.).

  • Sorry I'm no help, but I hope for the best outcome for you all!! I truly hope everything comes out good!

  • I'm so sorry and hope everything turns out ok.

While I was pregnant they saw that one of Ryan's kidneys had cysts and was most likely non-functioning so he had to go through some tests after he was born.  A few weeks ago he went through an MRI which he had to be sedated for.  He did great with it but it was really hard on me and my husband having to watch them put the IV in and also just going under.  We were at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and they were great with him but it was definitely tough to see him crying and also fighting through the sedation (all of which they told us would happen).  Just be strong for each other - that's what got us through everything.

I'll keep you guys in my thoughts...

  • Thanks guys...the next few weeks/months will be interesting. We just want to know what's going on with our sweet boy.

MissKitty, we're also at CHOP (so we know we're in really good hands).

  • CHOP has been great (sorry, I didn't realize you were from Philly too!)  It has made us feel better that we are getting him the best care.

Good luck and keep us posted!

  • My niece had to have one before she had a cochlear implant done.  She was born with hearing loss, but lost basically all of it before she was 1.5.  She seems to be doing great with her cochlear, but has only had it for a few months.

For your own piece of mind have them do the genetic testing on LO, if you haven't already had it done, the Drs all figured it was some fluke, but amazingly enough sil and her DH both carry the recessive hearing loss gene.  They have another child with hearing loss that isn't as severe, but they found out about their gene carrying after he was born.

Thanks for sharing --- we have an appt for the genetic test next month. I'm so nervous about it, but at least it'll give us answers (hopefully).

  • My DS had one done at 2 months to check the fluid levels in his brain. The Dr wanted to try first with no sedation to see if he would just lay there, and he did. They made me put on a lead vest and I got to stay in the room and hold a bottle in his mouth while they put him into the machine. The whole test took less than a minute, and he did great. Good luck! :)
