How Long Can Pumped Breastmilk Be Left Out?

I finished pumping at 8:30 this morning and put the breast milk on my bedside table. Got up to take care of some things and two hours later...my breast milk was still on the table! My house is pretty cool-around 65-68 degrees. I put the milk in the fridge right away. Is it still good or do I have to dump it?

  • There are different guidelines depending on the temperature of the room, but if it is really cool 8 hours is fine.  2 hours is just fine.

  • My LC said unofficially up to 10 hours is fine, I think the Dr. Sears website says the same. Two hours is FINE!!

  • Yep, you're fine.  My ped and 2 LCs I worked with all told me 8-10 hrs on a countertop.
