changing table or dresser with a topper

Not sure how much storage I need.  I have a closet and small dresser (3 drawer).  Any thoughts?

I was considering a tall dresser and use the small one as the changing table or just getting a smaller shelf style changing table

Re: changing table or dresser with a topper

  • I personally like using a dresser with a topper b/c then you can hide all the diaper stuff in the drawers- out of sight but right where you need it.  You can do the same with baskets on a changing table, but really, what do you do with a changing table after baby?  At least with a dresser you can use it longer.

This.  We're using the long Hemnes dresser from IKEA.  The changing pad sits on top and doesn't seem to move around.  Besides, I won't be leaving baby unattended on the pad so I'm not worried about securing it to dresser itself!  (There is strap on the changing pad that would allow you to secure it if you feel safer.)

  • We bought the Davinci Emily set (crib, dresser and change table) - pic below (except we bought the coffee color).  The change table isn't open in the bottom, it has 3 drawers.  I'm happy for the extra storage space.

  • I second the PP's point. Changing tables have a single use. Dressers can be used for years.
  • I really like the dresser instead of the changing table too - one less piece of furniture to deal with! The only reason we have a changing table is because it came free with the crib. But we also went out and bought a dresser for the clothes. We have some baskets to use for the changing table so diapers and other things won't be the first thing you see when you walk in the room.

  • I say get a dresser...it can be used forever unlike a changing table which they grow out of after a couple of years.

We have the long Hemnes dresser in white.  So far it works REALLY good with DD.  We have all the diaper supplies on the top with it (our changing pad is on the left side so we can use our right hand to grab everything).

The changing pad doesn't move at all...but DD is still very young.

This was what we did as well.  I just put a piece of shelf liner under the changing pad and it doesn't move AT ALL.  Not something that you really have to be worried about when they are tiny, but once they get squirmy- you don't want that pad scooting around.
