Dumb Q - but are receiving blankets and burp cloths the same thing?

Re: Dumb Q - but are receiving blankets and burp cloths the same thing?

  • No, a burp cloth just kind of goes over your shoulder in case the baby spits up while you're burping him/her.  Receiving blankets are big enough (usually) to swaddle the baby in.

words out of my  mouth!  but you can (and I will) fold up a receiving blanket to double as a burp cloth.  receiving blankets are sorta all purpose, IMO

  • ...what the other posters said....

However, DS was definitely a vomiter, so we used receiving blankets as burp cloths since he would saturate a real burp cloth after one feeding.

  • Not a dumb question! I'm a first time mom so I need to know these things too.

  • What other pp have said. But I LOVE the Gerber flannel burp cloths!  They are very thick and absorbent(sp). My DD had reflux and they were great!

  • Gerber cloth diapers make great burp cloths too.

This! DS had pyloric stenosis. He needed to have surgery at 6 weeks because he kept NOTHING down. They were the best for burp cloths. A lot of the actual burp cloths are either thin or too small.
