Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When will he stop putting everything in his mouth?

I used to enjoy reading to DS.  He would look at the pictures and get all excited and kick his legs.  Now when we read a book, he just tries to grab it from me and chew on it.  Does anyone know when I can expect him to outgrow this?  I don't think it's just teething; it's more like exploring everything with his mouth.  And I mean everything.  I'm looking forward to him playing with toys rather than just chewing on them.  Sigh.

  • dd doesn't do this as much as she used to - but she still loves to chew on stuff.

  • I wonder this too.  People tell me it does stop but I wonder when.  It's funny you say that about the books-she was always mouthing the books but just in the past couple of weeks she sits and looks at the books more now as opposed to eating them.  Everything else still gets eaten though.

  • They don't truly get out of it until 2 (or so).  It'll taper off, but will probably still put things in their mouth until then. At least that's what Freud said, lol, but he was a nutcase.
  • my son is 11.5 months and i almost think it's worse now than a few months ago, so we all have a ways to go!  i'm ready to not have to worry about it all the time, too!
