Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What's the return policy for LOs?

I'm just kidding..... I think.  Wink  But I had to take my LO to the pedi again today because she has pink eye again.  She's gone once a week for the past month because she keeps getting sick from daycare.  She had a cold for 2 weeks that turned into an ear infection and pink eye.  Then she got another virius and was barely eating.  And this week pink eye.  The pedi said see you next week when I was leaving his office today.  He was kidding, but still.  So back to my original question - is it too late to return her?  Or I guess I could see if she falls subject to TN's lemon law.  I think she would qualify as a lemon now with all her sicknesses.

One real question - does anyone's else LO get sick this often from their day care.  I'm thinking my daycare is not doing a good job.  I got a call yesterday and they said hey looks like your LO is getting pick eye.  I said oh okay I'll come get her right now since it's so contagious and all and they said oh no - you only have to get her if her eye starts draining.  WTH!

  • I think that there are a lot of parents who get very annoyed when they have to pick up their child from daycare. They have to miss work, take time off, possibly a cut in pay, etc. to go and get their child. Unfortunately, they get upset and take it out on the daycare. Therefore, teachers and directors at the daycare have to be very careful about calling a parent to pick up a child. They are running "customer service" type operation. If the parents get mad and feel as if they are called too often, then those parents will move their child to another daycare.

I, personally, would rather go and get Tegan and not expose her sickness to the other babies, plus I wouldn't want to be at daycare if I was sick, so why would I leave her.

The main problem with daycare, is that most children are most contagious before they have any outward signs of infection. Once a child has a fever or is showing signs of an infection or virus, they are actually less contagious than they were the previous day, when they appeared to be healthy. I would ask your daycare about their toy and hand washing policies. I know that our daycare requires teachers to wear gloves when they are changing diapers and feeding babies. They also are expected to clean the toys in a diluted bleach solution several times a day.

Tegan definitely gets sick more often when she's at daycare (only goes during the school year, I'm a teacher), but I know that eventually she will have an incredible immune system and will get sick much less frequently. I'd rather her miss days of daycare now, then miss half of her first year of school.
