We've been letting Scarlett have a lot more finger foods but I'm starting to wonder if giving her more purees again would be good-maybe do a finger food and puree for lunch, stick to her yogurt plus a fruit puree for breakfast and then we have to start introducing dinner-maybe a puree and again a finger food.

Re: When did you stop giving purees?
Allie chokes on pretty much everything, so we have to feed her finger foods very slowly. She can't really get enough food that way, so we still feed purees/yogurt for breakfast lunch and dinner, and for snacks she has very small finger foods to feed herself.
I know she doesn't really NEED solids right now, but if I don't feed her solids I'm back to giving her 6 bottles a day, and she was gaining too much weight on that. (eating 40+ ounces) Her schedule is perfect right now with 5 bottles, purees, and snacks.
I know a lot of people quit purees between 8-10 months though. We'll probably keep them till she's at least a year.
we still give DS purees once or twice a day, but it's usually in the form of fruit.. he prefers most things with chunks so he eats more stage 2 foods or whatever we are eating, chopped up in bite sized pieces
last night he had roast beef and potatoes and fed himself.. the night before he had chicken breast with pasta (i fed the pasta, he fed himself the chicken)

Lilly refused the spoon/purees at about 7.5 months...so since then, she has been eating all finger foods. She does really well with it and eats quite a bit..I'm actually really surprised how much food this girl puts away.
I tried giving her some purees/yogurt a couple weeks ago and she did take it....I guess that independent stage passed...so now, I will feed her some yogurt in the mornings and sometimes a veggie puree with her finger food dinner. But mostly she is still eating all finger foods.
I gotta say, I love that she is so good at feeding herself because when we go out for dinner, I can eat my dinner while she eats hers..I don't have to sit there and feed her and let my food wait until either she is done or DH is done and can take over feeding.
We stopped giving purees around 7 months. Zack was very good at feeding himself finger foods, so we just started giving him small portions of whatever we were eating for his meals. Since the solids are only for practice eating, I wasn't worried about the fact that he was getting less to eat that way.
However, daycare continues to give him purees twice a day. I'll have them stop that and switch to all table foods at one year.
