Anybody ever done a zip line tour?

DH and I are 98% settled on our cruise for February.  One of the stops would be Honduras.  There is a shore excursion that lets you do a zip line tour over the jungle.  I think that would be awesome, but it says you should be in really good shape to do it.  I'm not in horrible shape, but my exercise these days consists of running after two 15 month olds!

Just curious if you've done one, how much of a work out is it?  Maybe I should look for things that keep my feet planted on the ground?

  • We did one in Jamaica, it was a lot of fun.  I'd definately recommend it.  Watching monkeys jump through the trees while we were going through the jungle was awesome.

And I think you'll be fine as far as being in shape goes.  It isn't very challenging.  Have fun :)

  • I did it in Cancun a few years ago and LOVED it.  I would say as long as you are in moderate shape (i.e can get out and walk for 30 minutes+ without a problem) you should be OK.

Sidenote--I'm afraid of heights, and thought it was awesome.

  • We did one on our honeymoon in Jamaica.  We had to do a little bit of hiking before and after the zip tour but that was it.  It you can hike a mile or two, you'll be fine.  We had a great time on it.  Definitely worth it!

    Exactly this!
  • We did one that was called a "Canopy Challenge" on our honeymoon and I was completely beat up, bruised up and down my arms and legs for a week.  The zip lines were easy it was the walking on thin wires, climbing ropes and jumping from tree trunk suspended in the air that killed me.  If its zip lines only, I'd do it they are fun, just make sure you aren't in for more then that.
  • I have only done an hour long zip line tour (4 zip lines & 3 rope bridges) and I am in moderate physical shape.  I found I was fine while I did it.  The only time I felt a little winded was the initial climb up the 76 foot spiral stairs.  I didn't feel over extended.  I really enjoyed it.  The next day I did find I was a bit sore like I had worked out, but it wasn't anything bad.

  • I did one in Costa Rica and it was a blast, so you should go. The exercise part usually is the getting to the zip lines, we had to do some walking for ours. The rest wasn't that bad. I even used the video function on my camera to tape myself while I was on the zip line. I love watching that video!
