I switched from OTC prenatals to prescription Prenexa b/c it has a stool softener in it. I also take one serving of Metamucil everyday. I was constipated - but now the Prenexa + Metamucil seem to really be working.
Yeah... the whole once a week thing is awful. After about 6 days I start to feel ill. I've been doing better. I started using Metamucil every day and I take a stool softener if it's been more than a couple days. Also, I've been working on adding fiber to my diet. I had a couple days where things seemed to be clearing out and I lost about 5 lbs! No wonder I felt so miserable.
Yep, it does suck. It is probably caused more by the pre-natal vitamins, than the pregnancy. Iron supplements are known to cause constipation and many PNVs have more than your daily requirement of iron.
My doctor told me I could take Colace. I have been more successful by drinking lots of water and eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. Stick with cleaner foods that your body can digest easily. Drinking warm liquid, especially in the morning, can help too.
Yes this is the worse part by FAR! Colace and Miralax are safe and work well, however, like pp said I would also look at changing up your diet to includes lots and lots of water plus fruites and veggies.

We have the Trader Joe's "Colon Cleanse" and I assumed that would not be ok to take, but DH was reading me the label and it is all natural....anyone know if that is ok? I am so used to being perfectly regular, and now I am so bloated it is awful!!!

All natural doesn't mean it's safe. Best to speak w/ your OB before taking any OTC herbs or supplements.
Add more fiber in to your diet, and start taking colace! I was REALLY bad for awhile...and then I made it a point to do these things. Fiber is easy to add in, buy some high fiber bread and cereal, eat more fruit, veggies, and beans. Kellog's sells a brand that has 40% of your daily fiber and does not have the chicory root extract that Fiberone has.
I can relate. I haven't taken anything yet, I am going to ask my doctor what is okay. I have been trying to drink more fruit juices and eat food with fiber and it seems to be helping. Also make sure you are drinking lots of fluids, that will help as well.

Colace! 3 times a day. you can also take benefiber. Anything Kashi makes is high in fiber too.
You think the constipation is the worst part until you get hemmorhoids.
