OK I don't BF but my friend does & her baby is 2 months old. Her pedi said to cut out milk, soy, eggs & nuts from her diet to see if that is what is causing her baby to have eczema.
Now does that mean everything cooked with milk & eggs too or just like a scrambled egg, glass of milk. Stuff like that.
I told her I thought it meant all or nothing, but she is under the impression that like cookies made with eggs & milk & those types of minimal dairy products like that are ok.
What did you do & any tips to make it a bit easier or a website to help her?
Thanks!
Re: BF moms, Food allergy question
We don't have issues with food allergies, but I know someone that does. Her daughter's eczema is so bad that she has to cut EVERY morsel of soy, milk, eggs, and nuts from her diet. Her diet is very, very limited. Even finding bread that she could eat was a challenge. God bless her, she's still determined to BF for a year. That's sacrifice!
I cut dairy and soy from my diet, and I included everything - dairy is hidden in SO many things, and if it doesn't have dairy in it, it probably has soy.
I just googled dairy free, and got a few websites - I found it was easiest just to read the labels, look for the allergen warnings, but double check the ingredients.
I would encourage her to eliminate all possible allergens from her diet, then she will be able to see for certain if it makes a difference or not.
I was able to start reintroducing dairy at 6 months, and we're going well so far! Hope this helps!
When I BF my oldest I cut milk, soy and eggs from my diet. I included all "hidden" sources as well. Have her try a local health food store. They have a lot of vegan options that worked for us. Our Target also has a good selection of goat's milk cheese and some other milk free products.
If she searches "How to read a label for a XXX (milk, egg, soy, nut) free diet" she will be able to find all the terms that indicate an allergen is present in the food. It's not always clear on some labels.
Good luck to her!

I would advise cutting all of it, and if it clears the eczema she can slowly add things back one at a time to see if it stays gone or if one thing in particular is causing it.
