Work and Pregnancy

How are you handling work and pregnancy? I'm a director in a large organization. I've only told my assistant that I'm pregnant. I thought I would be able to easily handle the changes and not let the pregnancy affect work. Unfortunately, today my stomach was so sick that I couldn't concentrate on anything! I eventually left work about 45 minutes early because I was so miserable. I don't want to be seen as 'less than' at work, but ... DANG, I feel crummy. Anyone else struggling with the balance between work and pregnancy?

Re: Work and Pregnancy

  • I'm right there with you.  I have a job that is pretty demanding and not going to get any easier with me being pregnant.  I am not ready to tell them just yet - they are not going to be thrilled.  I'm really praying I don't get hit hard with m/s because I will have to work through it.  So far, I haven't really had too much.  Somehow, we will make it work. I just keep thinking that - and plan on stocking up on as many of the "remedies" (B6, preggie pops, zofran) as possible!.

Good luck.  I hope the m/s passes quickly for you.

  • I don't have as demanding a job as some, but still it is hard.  When I am busy, I am super busy.  But luckily when I am not as busy, I can usually get off my feet some.

I am eating jolly ranchers like crazy and just trying to snack as much as possible to keep the ms at a manageable level.  The exhaustion is what is kicking my butt.

  • Yeah, the fatigue is getting pretty bad.  My body is craving a nap come early afternoon.  Wouldn't be so horrible if I could drink coffee again!

  • i'm an RN. i work 12 hour shifts, 7 to 7, alternating 2 weeks of days and 2 weeks of nights....  to say work has been difficult is a gross understatement.  i thought i was going to fall asleep standing up last night, and i work in the ICU so that would not be a good thing.. not to mention the 'not so sympathetic' co workers i have.... this is going to be a long 9 months.

  • I'm not a director or anything, so I cannot really truly relate to you directly. However, I have been training all week and we have been SLAMMED as well. I have been munching munching munching. Sucking on peppermint candies, drinking gingerale (I have my own case in the fridge in the break room with a note "DO NOT DRINK".) What else >tap, tap, tap< oh, on my 1 hour lunch break I go to my car and take a nap and eat my lunch/dinner (I work 11-8 at a workers comp. related company, so I have to be there late in case of a hospital discharge) on my 15 minute breaks (if I am lucky enough to have one). My new friend in public (when a toilet isn't readily available) is ginger gum by Sea Bands available at CVS. They work really well when chewed in the proper dosage. I think that's it...oh, stay super hydrated too :)

I'd take all of your personal info off your ultrasound.

  • hi.  i posted something similar on the first tri board.  i started a new job the day after i found out and have been sooo anxious about it.  so far no m/s, but i've been really tired.  i'm trying to hold off telling them, but i'm just worried if i get sick, i am going to be really embarrassed and forced to tell.  not sure what i'm going to do..i just take it day by and day and hope for the best.
