Baby Names

How do you know the name is right?

DH and I have lots of time to pick a name still, but I'm struggling with how you know what is the right name. There are names we like, but then I second guess myself.

I also thought we had names picked out, and then actually became pregnant and wasn't so sure.

So I guess I'm asking how you all came to your decision, if you have by now. And if you have, do you still wonder if maybe it's not right? I just want to get it right for the child's sake.

Re: How do you know the name is right?

  • We chose two names for our daughter, Kate & Reese.  When she came out I held her up and went around the room. EVERYONE chose Reese.  So we knew that was her name :)

I think it's fine to have a few choices and then decide once you can actually look into their eyes....you'll just know.

     Best wishes!

  • DH had DD's name picked out before we found out what we were having. Iiked the name, but it was hard to match it with the child inside me. Once we found out we were having a girl, I fully agreed to the name and it just became her name over time. I did have some worries right before delivery that she wouldn't "look" like a Sophie, but she did. I think over time it will just feel right or wrong. You still have lots of time, and even if you get down to the wire, you can always bring a few names with you to the hospital and try them out once your baby is born.

  • Trent was the only name that both DH and I weren't hesitant with. All the others on our list we had a few "problems" with even if they were minor like we knew someone in that past with that name.

  • I'm pretty sure we like Emery Louise for a girl (for now!) We also like Molly but my BFF wants a Molly (named after her Aunt) and I just can't do that to her.

For a boy, we both like George Patrick and Cole Richard. That one has me totally flummoxed, because they are such different styles. I guess if we could at least nail down a style, I'd feel a bit better!

  • We picked Lucas and Elena before they born. When they were born, I knew right away that's who they were. I loved the names and I still do.

We've chosen names for this baby already and it's names that we both love. When this baby is born, hopefully, he/she will fit the name!

  • we had to names for a girl and one for a boy so when she came out the boys name got thrown out and the nurses placed her on the warming table Dh walked over to her and said, "Hi Molly, I'm your Daddy." And it just felt right cause our little one is SUCH a Molly, not a Jaclynn .  That my story, but I think if your that worried that your not sure I would wait and meet your baby and you will just KNOW it's a MOMMY thing.  GL

ITA. I was iffy about the name we chose (Gabriel Alexander) throughout my whole pregnancy, until he was born. Now I couldn't picture him with any other name.

  • Before we even TTC our girl name was Sarah. I think there certainly can be names that don't fit the baby once born, but I also believe that babies can fit into names. There was never another choice. We loved it because it was a normal name, but not overly popular or used, at least in our area. It is also well established so it is easy to be a 5 year old or 80 year old. Very happy with our decision.

  • We're going into the hospital with a few names and plan to meet her and then decide. I just cant imagine any one name as being IT right now.
  • with DD we narrowed it down to a short list after we found out it was a girl.... and then I heard her name (dont remember how or where) but I just knew that was for my baby.  I could feel her in my heart.

This one has not been decided on yet.  I have one that I think may be it.... but as a few more weeks pass and I get to know his kicks and things more is when I will decide for sure.

  • We had a list of names - and as things got closer, the name Tanith stuck with me.  DH liked it, too.  I decided that it would probably be her name, but I'd need to meet her first.

when she was born 2 weeks ago, she couldn't have been anything but Tanith...

Just give yourself time, you may find that name you have chosen fits perfectly in your head.
