  In the city (loop, near north and near northwest), you are looking at high $300's-$425 per week for infant daycare at a center.  The higher end is typically for Montessori, green daycares.  Most require that you pay even if you don't use care that day- sickness, vacation, etc.  Some provide diapers, formula (if you aren't EBF) and food- others don't.

  Nanny- most nannies with experience will ask for $12-15 per hour.  That is usually not including any employer-required taxes.  The lower-end tends to be those who are not legal to work in the US and/or those that want to be paid cash (aka under the table).  Count on an additional 20-30% for taxes (assuming that you want to do it legal).  Also, most full-time nannies want a guaranteed 40 hours per week.  Plus, most get 2 weeks paid vacation per year (1 chosen by family, 1 chosen by nanny)- so back-up care might be required for those weeks.  However, if your child is sick (but not sick enough that you would stay home from work), you won't have to worry about taking days off work.

  We've done both- there are positives and negatives.
