Hey Ladies... just a quick little hello and shout out! From this morning's check in, I see that there's a lot of us at work this morning! So I thought I'd do a little poll!!
1) How long is your commute?
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!).
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car).
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc).
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?)
Re: Workin' Mamas! (Or work out of the house, or whatever!)
1) How long is your commute? About an hour door-to-door.
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). Yesterday he came home with some cute artwork - a duck with feathers glued on it. So today I'm guessing he's playing with his buddy Zachy, hopefully not biting any kids (like he did yesterday), cuddling with Miss Shelly, and reading stories with Miss Anastasia.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Getting in enough cuddle time in the morning. DS likes to wake up, drink milk and cuddle. If he wakes up early enough there's time for that. But yesterday he woke up about 15 min before we had to leave... so no cuddle time. He was super clingy at DC and didn't want me to leave.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). I usually eat lunch at my desk so that I can work/surf the net... but a couple times a month I take a long(er) lunch at get my hair cut, or yesterday I got my eye brows waxed... or last week I went clothes shopping for DH. Its really nice to be able to do those things... kid free... and not have to use my family time/weekend for those types of "chores."
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I brought my lunch today (chicken noddle soup!), but I forgot I have a lunch meeting... they always cater really yummy (hot) food!! Hmmm...2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). I'm sure Natalie is running around like crazy, and Addison is likely sleeping since she hasn't been doing that at night lately.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Making it to the office on time, I'm a ALWAYS late! It is really awful.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). I love the interaction I get with other adults.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do yo u bring it, or eat out?) I'm going out, since I have to get gas and a carwash so I'll probably grab something quick.
1) How long is your commute? Now that we're in our new office, 15-20 minutes.
2) What fun is your baby up today? Playing with Grandma. Thursdays are G'ma days.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge. Getting to work on time, especially on preschool days.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). You mean other than uninterrupted Bump time?
I like that I can get some of my errands done at lunch time kid-free.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! I don't know what I'll have today. We were running late (surprise, surprise) so it's a lunch out day.1) How long is your commute?
60-90 mins depending on traffic (east bay to marin w/ a daycare drop off in between)
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!).
when i left her today she was quite happily playing in the play kitchen w/ her bff morgan
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car).
getting out the door on time (7:30a) so if i run into any traffic problems i can still make it to the office by 9
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc).
lunchtime errand runs .. be it the bank or the grocery store or a bru run
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?)
leftover brauts from last night and soup
1) How long is your commute? 20 minutes door to door
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). DH is taking LO to services for the holiday so LO is going to love flirting with all the ladies and people watching. He'll probably give DH a hard time about naps and just want to play.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Time Management, it is hard to hear about his day from the teachers at school and not get to be there myself. That being said...#4
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). I enjoy my job, what I do and like using my brain in this capacity...I admire SAHMs, I honestly don't think I could do it.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I normally bring in and eat at my desk, but I didn't have time this morning to pull something together (I guess that's part of #3 too)...so we'll see what I'm craving in a few hours.
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). Hmm..he's at home with grandma. Poor little guy is teething his upper molars so he hasn't been feeling himself. I bet he's probably getting a lot of snuggles from grandma and maybe being pushed around in his Cozy Coupe once it warms up a bit outside.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). I get off work early on Tuesdays and Thursdays but unfortunately I get home and 30 minutes later L goes down for his afternoon nap which is about 2 hours. I am bummed that I have that extra time away from work and he's sleeping.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). Not sure what is great about being out of the house at work...I guess I do a lot of internet shopping during my breaks. I also get some down time from chasing around a toddler!
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I always bring my lunch. No time to go buy anything. I have a ham & cheese sandwich, Baked Lays, and a white peach.
1) How long is your commute? 30 minutes.
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). She's probably hanging out with her friends, talking about tattoos (she was obsessed with them this morning).
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Pregnancy. I am so tired, so when I get home it's really hard for me to "get it together" for the little one -- she deserves more energy than I can give her at almost 38w. Also, I'm not being assigned any fun work because I could leave at any moment (she was 2w early) which is making my days DRAG.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). I really, really appreciate seeing my fam at the end of the day. I normally love being with them, but coming home to them after work is such a joy that it makes it worth it to work, if that makes sense.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I'll probably end up with either a sandwich or something from The Cravery (unless I give into a McDonald's urgethe secret blog
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). I think he's rolling around from toy to toy. Apparently he's a rolling fool at daycare. At home, not so much.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). getting to work on time is one challenge, but right now my biggest one is being able to keep up with the housework. It's not happening right now and it's getting really bad.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). I definitely shop online and try to do all of my "surfing" at lunch so that I don't feel like I need to when I get home.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) today I'll be getting lunch out - no leftovers from last night.
FWIW, not sure if you can swing it... but last fall, when DS was about 9 months old... we brought in a house cleaner. She comes twice a month. CHANGED MY LIFE.
1) How long is your commute? 2 seconds
or, up to an hour depending on how far I drive for a shoot.
2) What fun is your baby up today? Winnie is in the Jumperoo (and isn't this SUCH a productive use of my hands free time?)
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Right now it is having my focus split. Having so many things I want to work on business wise and very little time to do it. And not wanting to do business stuff when i do have a few moments of free time because I know it will be short lived and i'll have to stop as soon as i am on a roll.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). Driving to a shoot, being ALONE in the car. And then maybe getting to do some errands or have more alone time between the shoot and getting back to home.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I'll probably either have PB&J with Grey or go out to get something. The Blog | BirthbyKellyM
Hi!
1) 2-3 days a week it's one hour door-to-door (same commute as you, the fab mrs. A).
The other 2-3 days a week it's about 10 minutes (sooooo much better).
2) my baby is hanging with her sitter, playing.
3) the hardest part is missing out on quality time with her. On my SF days, I get home, rush into dinner, then bathtime, bedtime, etc. There really just isn't time to play without some other distraction on my mind. I hate that.
4) I really enjoying working on my career and my growth as a professional. I chose a career path that I think makes a difference in the world (environmental policy). All I really want to do is spend my working hours making this world a better place for my daughter. The other fun thing is indulging my inner foodie with the downtown SF eats (when the budget permits, of course).
today, a soggy microwave burrito. awesome.
1) How long is your commute? About 20-25 minutes.
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). He is at my MIL's house today. She said he might be taking a trip to Costco today, then for a walk this afternoon after it warms up.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Not making it to work on time. And feeling like not having time to do anything at home. I haven't quite found the balance of what seems like doing it all (working, cooking, cleaning, taking care of baby). DH does cook some nights, so that helps.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). I have a really flexible job, so if I need to take a longer lunch to run errands, I do. I have even done grocery shopping on my lunch, and just put the cold stuff in the fridge here at work. Makes it much easier.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) Homemade meatball sandwich, leftover from dinner last night
Uhg!! I know the feeling!! I work from home on Fridays... it is NOT my most productive day.
1) How long is your commute? 45 minutes to an hour each way.
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). Driving his gramma crazy with requests to read a new hockey book from the library and play hockey all the live long day.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Conflict with my DCP about our schedule and DS' needs. We're in a tough spot and it's making my days really hard. And I've been really late as a result. It's killing me.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). I don't have to play hockey all day? I get to sit at my computer without DS harrassing me to watch hockey videos on youtube?
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I made a turkey and cheese sandwich on sourdough wtih fruit and bbq popchips.
1) How long is your commute? I work from home soooo it is about 15 seconds to the office.
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). She is likely terrorizing the other babies at daycare with her kisses and never ending energy.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Once S was born I cut back my work hours to 2 days a week. Until a few weeks ago we had a nanny those days and so I am really struggling with sending S out of the house the two days I work. As far as a work struggle- it is my largest fundraising season so I am having a hard time getting everything done in 2 days or work a week!
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?)
Hummus and leftover falafel- yummm!!!
1) How long is your commute? About 45 minutes each way now that I'm driving. But not today; I'm working at home today!
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). Playing with grandma. Hopefully happy despite the teething!
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Pumping at work. It's a royal pain. And as much as I want to keep doing it, I also can't wait to be done with it.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). Only being responsible for me...I can do what I want, when I want. Like eat lunch...or pee!
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) Ummm, today, I think some leftover pasta. I try my hardest to bring it with me to the office, but I do end up going out more than I'd like.1) How long is your commute? About 90 minutes door to door (including daycare drop off & pickup)
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!).
Thursdays are baking/cooking day, so she's making banana pudding. Also, I believe they are doing spin art today.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car).
Trying to find "me" time at some point during the day.
Never making it to work on time no matter how early I leave the house.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc).
Hmmmm I'm struggling with this one today
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?)
I brought lasagna and a salad from home.
1) How long is your commute? 45 minutes to school including DC dropoff
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). Playing with her friend Jane and eating up a storm, if the last few days are any indication. She's probably eating lunch right now and will take a nap after that.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Getting to school on time...it hasn't happened ONCE so far. I need to allow myself more time to get her settled in at DC and for traffic, parking delays, etc. but I can never seem to get out of the house early enough. My profs probably all think I'm a huge flake for constantly walking in late.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). Challenging myself mentally again, for more than just trying to entertain K. And yesterday my afternoon class was canceled, so instead of picking her up early or studying (like I should have done), I went clothes shopping for myself. Didn't find anything, but the freedom to take my time and try stuff on was nice.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I try to always bring it. Yesterday I brought leftover chicken tortilla soup. My class isn't until 1 today so I'll eat something at home before leaving.1) How long is your commute? about 45 minutes each way.
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!). He is at school and was really excited to be going this morning. They should be at the park next to it right now.
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car). Balancing it all, trying to get work done, check in at home and then pack fun stuff in the evenings so I don't feel like I am missing out on so much.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc). Because I take BART I get to read both ways and get my reading time in.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?) I usually bring in but forgot to pack today so I have to figure out something to eat.
I totally agree with this one. I was telling DH lately that I really feel like I need to be very thoughtful and careful with my free time (since I have so little of it!). I can't stand it when the weekends are filled with errands and chores... with no really family fun! Poor Andrew just gets dragged around on those days! We're working on this one in our house.
1) How long is your commute?
Hour to 1.5 hours normally
2) What fun is your baby up today? (Take a guess or make something up!).
Probably playing in the leaves that are starting to fall
3) Name your current biggest working mom challenge (could be not making it to the office on time, missing dinner with your LO, long commute with LO in the car).
Biggest? The time black hole called a commute; I have officially given up on eating dinner as a family.
4) Name one really great thing about being out of the house during the day. Perhaps some creative way you use your time (running errands at lunch, shopping on the internet, etc).
I honestly can't think of anything really great.
And a bonus: What's for lunch!?! (Do you bring it, or eat out?)
Didn't bring, might have time to grab something today although it would be the first lunch I've had all week. A sandwich sounds good!
I would LOVE to have a house cleaner. Unfortunately with our dog it's not an option. She can't stay outside all day and there's no where for us to take her on a regular basis. boohoo.
Meaning that you couldn't have a house cleaner come over when you're dog is there? Hmm... I never even thought about that. I wonder what our house keeper will think when we get a dog (which we'll likely do... but not for a few years).
is there a way the dog could be crated on the days the house cleaner would be there ? if we could swing it (and h gets over his phobia of having people in the house he doesn't 'know') i'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a house cleaner. the 2 jacks can survive A day once every 2 wks crated.
You could probably find a cleaner who could put the dog out while cleaning and then bring it back in. I know my mom does this for sme of hr clients.

So insulting even though I am home all day its work damnit!
OMG couldnt resist! love you and really love to screw with ya!!
br
1. Most of the time, it's 45 min to an hour.
2. Both boys were in school. Aaron painted and Ryan did puzzles.
3. Making 3am phone calls to see who can watch the boys.
4. Once, I went and got a mani-pedi because my client was stuck in triage for hours and they wouldn't let me in. I still feel a little guilty, but it was better than spending 4 hours in the waiting room.
Bonus - it was Milkshake Day.
