Babies on the Brain

Can you get a flu shot in your first trimester?

Work is giving out free flu shots this week.  I have been trying to get in touch with a nurse from my doc's office, but it is hard because I don't officially have a doctor yet since mine was only a gyno so I can't call my doc's nurse directly yet.

I am going to google it later when I don't have to worry about my boss man walking up.  Just wanted to see if you smart ladies know.

  • I'd wait to ask your Dr., but mine wanted to give me the swine flu vaccine in the first tri.

  • You can, just make sure the person giving the shot knows you are pregnant that way you get the correct shot (preservative free stuff).

  • Dr. Google says it's ok. I don't know about the different types though. I just found an article on the vaccine, it didn't specify if that was the shot or mist.

Good call.  Surely if I go to the flu shot tent and tell them I am pg, the nurses will know what to give me.

I would ask.  I am pretty sure the mist is safe, but not sure about the shot.

Reverse that.  The mist is a live virus and is not recommended for pregnant women.

    The shot is fine.

Your OB/MW will give you a shot if you ask.  It should be covered through your insurance being pg.  I personally would wait and let them do it.

I actually thought it was the other way around.

I got both the H1N1 and regular flu shot during my 1st tri, so I know the shots are safe. In fact, when H1N1 was in short supply at the beginning, only pregnant women and infants were allowed to get it in my area.
