Where to buy maternity clothes?

So I went on the Motherhood website (we have a store about 20 miles away I plan on going too this Saturday).

I am the biggest tight wad you will ever meet.  Its not that I cant afford the clothes at Motherhood its just that spending 24.99 on one top makes me cringe.  My DH says it doesnt matter, to me it matters. lol I have got to stop beating myself up to spend money on myself.

What other stores or website would you recommend for me to check out?

  • Old Navy (online) has good prices and some cute stuff!

  • Maternity clothes are so overpriced so I don't blame you. I would suggest Old Navy or Target.

  • I got 5 tops at OldNavy.com for $34 total with shipping.  If you buy anything online I suggest going to retailmenot.com and searching for coupon codes, too.

  • Old Navy & Gap, the in-store selection sucks but they are always sending out 25-30% off coupons.

  • If you don't mind used they have stuff on Ebay and Spot's Corner on Hyena Cart.  It's usually lightly used and in good condition.

My sister claims Old Navy stuff does not hold up well.

I plan on looking at Ann Taylor Loft, Gap, and Destination Maternity and look for sales when possible.  But I do need some nice stuff for work.

I ordered one top from ann taylor loft last night for this Embarrassed and a bella band. I had a gift card and coupon to use and those will be my only purchases for a while.

  • There's a Motherhood Maternity outlet store about 20 min. from me. I'm going to check that out and hope it is a bit cheaper.

A friend of mine also offered to let me borrow some of her stuff. We're pretty much the same size so I hope that works out. I don't care if I wear the same five outfits to work every week, I'm not buying a whole lot.

  • Old Navy!!  They have cute stuff that is reasonably priced.  Their jeans are on sale now (in Canada, at least, but I think they're on sale in the US too) and they always have a good sale online.
  • THANK YOU!

I for got about Old Navy, our local stores dont sell maternity so I will check online.  I didnt even know the Gap sold maternity clothes.  Both stores I do like the clothes from.

WIll check out the other places too.

Again THANK YOU!!  its been 17 years since I last shopped for maternity.

  • ON, Gap and Target.  I've heard JC Penny stuff is not bad, but I have no personal experience.

Tip: you can get a one time price adjustment at the Gap within 14 days.  I spent $240 there, saw something had gone on sale and went to get the adjustment on the 14th day.  Turned out everything had gone on sale and I ended up only paying $77 for the whole lot.  I assume this policy stands at ON as well, but I've never tested it. (ETA: this was on maternity clothes)

Warning about ON Maternity: Most of their pants are not true to size.  They are all over the place, so make sure you save all the shipping labels and try them on right away.

Warning about Motherhood and their affilates (Mimi and Pea in the Pod): Their in store return policy SUCKS.  They will only give you store credit.  The online policy, however, is totally different.  You can return there and get a full refund.

Yesterday was 25% off everything and I had a $10 reward certificate.  I normally tend to buy stuff on Tuesdays since I get 10% off then.  Hopefully at least a couple of the tops fit!

  • Check outlet stores if you can.  I bought some cute stuff at Motherhood but wasn't that impressed with the prices.  Then I found super-cute jeans at a JCP outlet for $12.99 each.

  • ON, Target, and Kohl's have super cute mat clothes that won't break the bank especially for the amount of times you'll wear each piece before you grow out of it.

  • I check Craig's List every couple of days.  There are always other mothers trying to sell their maternity clothes, and usually pretty cheap. Good luck!

I think this changed recently, I just bought clothes there & when I looked at the receipt it said store credit or refund as long as tags were attached & it was within 30 days. I worked at Motherhood through college & their 10 day exchange or store credit made my life miserable.

Really?  That would be AWESOME.  I loathed shopping there and having to sign the reciept that said I understood the "return" policy.

Yeah, it appears they finally caught on that it sucked azz & they were losing business. I imagine it had something to do w/Kohl's selling their Motherhood line (& of course Kohl's return policy is 1000x better). Seriously, you know how many times I had pregnant women chuck their bags of clothes at me when I had to explain to them I couldn't take them back lol.

  • OMG never thought of Kohls and thats the closest of all the stores listed here.  Will try there first, then the mall and the shops there.  Will look on line tonight when I get home at the other places.

You have all been a BIG help and I THANK YOU!

I can imagine!  I got into it with the girl once over their tights.  I can't return those AT ALL, but I can't try them on either, so if I guess wrong, I am out $20????  Are you out of your mind?

  • Motherhood is pricy, but some of it is WORTH IT!  I absolutely LOVE their secret fit pants, here's one

    https://www.motherhood.com/maternity/jeans-fit-and-flare.asp

You can find them on sale anywhere from $25-$35?  They were SO COMFY I only had two pairs for my last pregnancy and I did laundry every two days so i could wear them again! LOL  I bought others but they didn't compare in comfort and fit.  As for shirts, you don't necessarily NEED maternity shirts.  The styles now are such long shirts anyway.  I enjoyed showing off my bump.  I went to Kohls and found some cute tops, regular shirts, for about $5 or $6 each.  I bought one in each color and wore the heck out of them.  They stretched and they lasted me through the end of my pregnancy!  Maternity pants on the other hand, are a must!  Buy a few good pairs and enjoy them, they are comfy!  I can't stand anything cutting into my belly when I'm preggo!
