Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone else nervous about ditching bottles?

Bug still wakes up every, single night to suck down a 6-7oz bottle.  I don't think it's a comfort thing; she really is hungry.

How do you wean off bottles when a baby is crying her head off in the middle of the night?  We have like 2 months, but I'm getting nervous just thinking about it.

  • Why do you have to wean her at 12 months on the dot?  If you are nervous about it, then don't do it...wait till you are both ready.

If you really do want to wean, you could do it more gently.  Like start giving her only 5oz for a few days.  Then 4oz, 3oz, etc, until she isn't expecting a full feeding at that time of night.

  • I'm not tied down to the 12 month rule. If he is ready at 12 months fine. If not we will continue bottles. If he weans at 15 or 16 months is it the end of the world? I want him to get the nutrients he needs. Right now he has a hard time with the sippy cup so I don't want to rely on that.
  • DD used to wake up at 4 am and drink a whole bottle. We decreased that bottle by an ounce every night and when were at 1 or 2 oz, she just stopped waking up at that time. Hope that helps!

  • I am. I'm thinking we might atleast keep our 8pm bottle, it is so relaxing for the two of us. That is the only time he will sit still and let me cuddle him these days and I'm just not ready to let that go!
