Hitting the bottle while eating

So LO has started this new thing where she hits the bottle the whole time she's eating. I thought she was getting really frustrated with the slow flow, so I switched to the fast flow (VentAire doesn't have a medium - grr) and it was waaaay too fast. (Side note: are other VentAire users running into this problem, and what do you do when they're in between flows?)

But then I just had her in her crib and she was hitting the animals on her little Fisher Price aquarium thing. She was just staring at the lights and hitting it nonstop. So, now I'm not so sure that she's frustrated with the bottle. Is this a normal thing to do? So weird!!

  • Lol. To me, hitting the bottle means getting drunk which gives your post a whole new spin. I think this is a stage. Is LO reaching yet?

  • My LO rubs her ear like she is going to rub it off her head or rub her hair out of her head (which is falling out as it is).

She could be realizing she has a bit more control over her hands now and hits the bottle or bats at the animals.

Yeah she reaches for objects and grabs them when she's on her playmat. And haha, I didn't even think about "hitting the bottle" like that!! :)

  • DD is constantly doing that when she is eating! Like pp said, I think she is realizing she has more control over her hands now. Sophia will also try to pull the bottle out with her hands and then start talking for a few seconds and then put it back in and start eating, it's the cutest thing!

    Hmm.. that's a good point!

  • Lucy started doing this when she first started to really notice her hands. She now holds her bottle more, but before I would hold her keys in one hand so she could play with those and hold the bottle in the other. I'm sure when Riley gets more interested in holding her bottle the hitting will stop-she's probably just really excited that she can move her hands all around.

DD does the same thing!  And then goes back to hitting the bottle.

  • AHHH good! It seemed to weird to me, but I'm glad it's not! She definitely does a lot of those things you guys said. And when she pulls the bottle out of her mouth, she'll examine it for a minute and then put it back in. I like the idea of the keys, Moo :)

  • Owen just started doing that  too! He usually tries to grab it and hold it. But lately he has been hitting it. Its pretty funny. Smile

This exactly. Also, when I nurse (I do a combo of nursing and bottlefeeding), he hits my boob constantly. It is almost funny but gets pretty annoying. I think he is just discovering new sensations and control of his hands.

Edited to add: On a further note, he hits the table when I feed him his rice cereal. haha

  • ventaire nipple question...the drops in nipples only work if you have the wide bottles.  If you have the standard bottles try the dr brown's level 2 nipples.
