Finally have started DS on solids. Doing rice cereal mixed with breastmilk and fed with a spoon, and he HATES it! Faces, crying, protesting with hands and feet, spitting it out. I've tried others feeding him to see if it is just my style, but no luck. Any pointers from the seasoned veterans?
Re: HATING solids?
From what I understand, lots of babies hate rice cereal. And it's really of essentially no nutritional value anyway, so we just skipped it and went straight to mashed up avocado right around 6 months. Haven't missed cereal at all.
Also, as other said, he may just not be ready. I'd let him try something other than cereal, and if he behaves the same way, give him a week or two and try again. No need to force the issue - he won't be existing on breastmilk or formula at 18!
I feel your pain. Evan cries everytime we try to feed him solids. He hated bananas, apples, sweet potatoes, pears, oh and rice cereal. We have tried every week starting at 4 months on our Pedis recommendation (he thought it might help with his reflux) and now that he is 6 months old he said we need to try every night even though he cries and hates it.
I am going to talk to DH about getting a new Pedi. I just don't like his bedside manner or the fact that he just thinks Evan has a temper and needs to learn to like solids. Maybe I'm just being defensive.

I *hate* to say this, but Julia hated solids as a baby. Started at 6 months and it wasn't until she was 10 months that she really started eating them. and I didn't start with cereal, but the alleged "yummy" stuff. I was literally crying that I didn't think she'd even try her birthday cake! But she did!
Anyway, she is still a problem eater. She eats oatmeal breakfast, pb&j sandwich lunch, and nothing for dinner generally unless it is cheese, rice or pizza. just UGH.

You can always try Dr Nguyen with Tykes to Teens! She and I have had debates but that's only because I have a strong personality, but in the end, she's really listening to what I'm saying/feelling (gut wise). All my friends see her and like her, but they're all go with the flow kind of people.
S loved his first bowl or two... then wanted nothing to do with it. So we stopped for a month or so. Now he chows down. Still not a puree fan, but he's great with table foods.
I would not force him. There is nothing to be gained by making this a control issue.
