How often to take LO to potty?

DS is finally starting to consistently use the potty, but he is not initiating getting to the potty, yet. How often should I take him to the bathroom to try? I was thinking about every 2 hours. Do you guys set a timer? What if your LO won't sit on a regular toilet, what do you do when you are out and about?

for us, two hours would be a looong time. If he's drinking a lot, every 20-30 minutes. If not much drinking, then maybe an hour. I gto frustrated about a month after we started b/c he still wasn't telling me and then it just clicked and most of the time he tells me now, but not all the time. I do use a timer sometimes if he's really resistent. When he hears the ding, it's kind of exciting. I also use it sometimes for me because I forget.

When we first started, I kept the potty chair in teh back of the car and lifted up the hatch at each stop and let him sit back there. Then I dumped it in the bushes. He LOVED it! I keep the clorox spray in there and then spray it out over the bush. I wonder if this is legal? hah

I tell my son it's time to try every 15-30 minutes, depending on how much he went last time. If he had a BIG pee the last time, I might wait an hour or so.
