Swaddle blankets

We went to BRU this weekend and I picked up  a couple of swaddle blankets.  When DH saw them, he freaked out and almost refused to let me buy them!  He said they gave off a bad impression (I suppose he perceived them as being straight jackets).  LOL  He's the type of person that can't stand having sheets tucked in at the feet, so I can see that he may think it is uncomfortable for babies.  However, I love being fully tucked in and all warm.

Anyway, he already warned me that he may take the babies out when he sees them in the blanket.  LOL  Anyone else "hear / see" a reaction the same as my DHs?  I only bought two anyway since I didn't know how babies would react to them... but I've heard they are lifesavers.

Re: Swaddle blankets

  • that is pretty funny!! Maybe when he sees the nurses swaddle the babies in the hospital he'll understand better! I ended up with like, 6 Swaddle Me blankets. We looooved them! Some babies aren't big into the swaddle, but for us they were a life saver!

I've been calling them the "burrito blankets"  LOL  Anyway, yeah, I've heard they are amazing, which is why I wanted them, but didn't want to overdo it and buy too many.  I guess we'll figure it out when they arrive.  I'm sure we are going to have to make many trips to baby stores when babies come to pick up forgotten items.  : )

  • Funny DH! Remind him that babies (usually) want to feel like they're still in the womb, so the swaddling will be comforting. And if they don't like being swaddled, no biggie!
  • This might also depend on the baby. For us it was a LIFE SAVER to have J swaddled. He was swaddled for a very long time and that is the only way he slept. As it is, he still sleeps with a blankie.

Some babies love to be out in the open thou! So you never know!

  • Nick used to call C "his little burrito" when she was all swaddled up, but he never had any issues with it. In fact, it was a lifesaver for us and it really helped her sleep. Obviously she's no longer swaddled, but she does sleep with a blankie. I can understand the "straight jacket" perception, but most babies actually enjoy being swaddled. Maybe your DH will come around when he sees the nurses swaddling your LO's -- or maybe when he sees that swaddling the boys will = more sleep :)
  • my mom reacted this way but she changed her tune when she saw how well it works!  Big Smile
  • Oh Jackie, I lived at BRU the first few months!! I felt like there was something else I needed every week!

LOL Dawn, very true! I never thought of these in this way but can see why your hubby thought that. it doesn't look so bad when the baby is actually swaddled. BTW, i've heard some good things about the "Miracle Blanket". You may want to take a look. ;)

I don't think he's concerned about the "fashion stmt" but more the constriction!  He himself doesn't like to be contained so he'd feel bad doing the same to babies. LOL

We'll see how it goes w/ the blankets.
