Babies: 9 - 12 Months

non messy (& cheap) snack recommendations please!

What non messy snacks do you feed your kid when out & about? (Other than Cherrios, Mum mums or Puffs.)

M loves Mum mums. & I love that they aren't messy but they're kid of pricey for the amount that you get & how long they last.

We've tried crackers & they make a huuuuuge mess.

Re: non messy (& cheap) snack recommendations please!

  • We do Cheerios, Baby Goldfish (they're smaller than regular goldfish so they don't make as much of a mess) and Teddy Grahams.

  • DD loves cheerios, bear's paw cookies and animal crackers.

  • We've done grapes (cut in half) and cubes of cheese, those aren't too terribly messy. Blueberries too, but had to stop once DS discovered the fun of squishing them all over.

I also always have a container of applesauce in the diaper bag. It's messy, so would have to sit down to feed them, but it's a room temperature snack I can be sure to always have on hand.

  • Puffed corn (bigger pieces than cheerios and less smooshing potential). String cheese (I hand her pieces), the crunchy baked pea pods from Trader Joes.

  • We usually just carry around a container of cheerios and some animal crackers, or the Gerber biter biscuits, but those can get a bit messy and soggy.  Maybe buy some dried fruit peices?

    Marshmallows!

I'm all about marshmallows (they're my favorite!) but they're a pretty serious choking hazard for babies... be careful with that.

This wouldn't be a great on-the-go option, but I keep a big bag of frozen fruit for at home snacks. I can pull out just a few pieces and let them defrost a tad in the microwave.

  • peas or steamed apples is what we give.

  • Cheerios, raisins, and pieces of string cheese are our snack staples, and none of these are technically messy.  Though squished raisin is a little difficult to get out of carpet.  We also do cut grapes and other cut fruits, but it might be a little harder to bring with you.
