1st Trimester

Are you still exercising ?

Are you still running/squatting and working out ?

Re: Are you still exercising ?

  • Yes. I started training for a half marathon a few months ago. As long as you have already been exercising- continue. i just wouldn't start anything brand new. It's all about comfort level though, if youre not okay with it- don't do it. :)

  • Yes.  With DD I exercised up until 5 days before her birth.

  • I had a post yesterday labeled "Running" and I got some great feedback on exercise from others on the board.  Yes, I exercise 6 days a week.  Mostly running and cardio.  I have lowered my pace.  I ran an 1.2 marathon on Sunday and have another in November.  I do a lot of classes at the gym as well, pilates, yoga, zumba, but I am hesitant to do Body Pump which is a weight lifting class.  The nurse told me no more than 20 punds for lifting.  From what I gather, the idea is to take it easy and not push yourself.  It is an adjustment because I like to have a really hard workout, but your body is tired and will not have enough energy.

  • I planned to exercise during 1st tri, but I felt so terrible for most of it so far that I haven't done much at all. The m/s seems to have ended for me, so I'm planning to hit the gym again today and hopefully get into a 30-minute-a-day routine.

  • i have done one pilates work out since i found out i was pregnant and the dh and i take walks on a daily basis.

i am the kind of person that likes to exercise at least 3 times a wk, but i have felt so tired and yuck that i have given it up.

i think i will start up with it again asap! :)

  • bwhhhaaaaa.  I was.  M/S kicked in and put that to a holt.  Well, most nights we got for a walk around the neighborhood, but I can't tolerate running and such

  • I just ran a 10k on Sunday and have a full marathon on Oct 17th. I've trained for over a year and already ran 3 full marathons, so that is why I am able to keep going. I should be 14weeks by then. I am a lot slower now and I take walk breaks when necessary.Like another poster said, I wouldn't start up something new that you haven't done before.

You would be amazed at how good you feel after working out.

  • I was running and then last week it got way too hot here and I felt like I was going to die so I have put a halt to all working out until I get past being 12 weeks.  I guess because of me being 35 I just get nervous and want everything to go well so I will wait on the working out.

  • I still run and walk my dogs several miles a day (with kiddo on my back!).  I totally credit exercise with helping me have an easy pregnancy, delivery and recovery last time.
  • I am.  I walk every day with my husband (I used to run, but I hated it, so I switched to long brisk walks).  I also have been lifting weights, although I've started modifying the weight lifting so I'm not doing as many balance exercises (I hear your balanced gets screwy when you're pregnant).

I also used to do unassisted pullups, but I stopped those because I think they're a bit too strenuous and I'm worried about falling.  Now, I've started doing lat pulldowns instead.  I also do a bunch of other weights.  Since I was doing those before, I've been told I can continue.  I'll probably get a little lighter on the weights as time goes on, though.  I don't want to overdo it, and, if something goes wrong with this pregnancy, I'll always wonder if it was because I worked out too hard.

I'm still doing ab work, too, and I plan to continue that as long as I can.  I'll modify those per my OBs directions, too (switching to planks and not lying on my back anymore).

  • Yep - I still run an average of 15 miles per week. I will continue until it becomes uncomfortable and then I will switch to the elliptical.

  • I too am continuing to work out, run aprox. 10 miles a week and also do kickboxing and strength training classes. I'm not far along so haven't had any symptoms yet and really hope that m/s doesn't hit me so hard that I can't excercise for a while.

  • I had to give it up for the first trimester. I started out with good intentions, but then m/s and EXTREME exhaustion set in, and it was all I could do to get myself to work and back every day. I've managed a few walks on good days, but usually come back and take a nap after. I 'graduate' to 12 weeks this weekend, and intend to go back and re-join the yoga class I got kicked out of because I wasn't far enough along.  High hopes for the second trimester!

Why don't you try asking your doctor?

At 5 weeks BFP I don't think it really matters.
