To request the secretary to stay an extra hour each evening I teach?
Back story. I teach ballroom dancing to kids. The secretary is there when I get there and for th first hour. Then she leaves and it is just me and my kids left alone (they are about 13/14). I personally do not think it would be fair if for example I fainted and they had to deal w/ an emergency. When I mean fair, I mean fair to the kids... I mean they are too young to deal w/ an emergency like that. Would it be really wrong of me to ask the secretary to stay that extra hour 2 nights per week?
Re: would it be wrong of me....
You can always ask her although she might not be able to.

I think that most 13-14 year olds are mature enough to know that if the only adult around faints, they should call 911 and/or their parents. If you are really worried about it, explain to them that pg can make you dizzy or impact your blood pressure, and that, while highly unlikely, if for some reason you faint you want them to do x, y, & z and that your emergency numbers are in your phone.
Would she be getting paid? I would be upset if I was the secretary and had to stay an extra 2 hours unpaid. I think 13/14 would know to get help if there was a problem. Could your husband come and stay for the class if you need someone there?
I still think that 13/14yo would be ok, like the PP said just tell them that your DH's number is in your cell. Most 13/14yo can work cell phones better than adults and chances are they have their own.
Also I don't mean to sound harsh but I would be more worried about fainting while driving than while with your students.
As long as she'll get paid for the extra 2 hours then there's no reason not to ask her if she could. Don't be upset if she can't through.
Also I would write out instructions if you do faint or become to ill to call anyone and explain the sheet to your class. I would then have the sheet next to the phone or the door coming out of your room so they know where to find the sheet in case of emergency.
