Babies: 9 - 12 Months

XP From BFing Board: Baby Doesn't Want BM!

I'm not sure if this is weaning or what but Max is only wanting to BF 3 times a day--Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  He BFs for only a few mins on each boob in the morning and at night and takes about 7 or 8 oz at daycare for lunch.  I know that babies are still supposed to be taking in about 20-24 oz each day but I'm not sure he's getting that ( I don't see how a 10 min max nursing session can get him 6 or 7 oz).  Help!  Tell me it's ok, tell me it's not ok, tell me something!

A few other things:

*He likes to drink water out of his sippy cup after solids but mainly spits it out so we don't put milk in it---should we just suck it up (no pun intended) and put milk in it?

*He is still having frequently wet diapers and having 2-3 bm a day.

TYIA!

  • you may be surprised by the amount that he is getting when he is nursing, they become pretty efficient at what they do, I would say as long as he is still having wet diapers and bm's daily that you are ok.

If the wet diapers drop then I would be concerned but otherwise you are doing your job.

FWIW my LO will spit up after drinking from a sippy but I have come to realize its because he sucks so much in a short period, and that if we make him slow down he is ok..HTH

  • I agree that S is now nursing more efficiently than before.  She gets way more oz than I would expect.

S also has gone through very very distractable phases where she has no interest in nursing very often.  On those days I try to offer nursing as often as I can but also offer her real food as well to balance out what she may be missing by being too active to eat.
