UGH, I guess DD isnt riding the bus to K after all.

I just got the bus route schedule. 45 minutes each way! To get to the school THREE MILES AWAY. I dont think so. That's ridiculous. I guess I'm driving again this year. Not such a big deal I guess, I did it last year and it IS only 3 miles. But she was so excited to take the bus. Sad

Re: UGH, I guess DD isnt riding the bus to K after all.

  • I rode over an hour on the way home when I was in school, for a school about 4 miles away....that's sometimes how it just works.  Unless it interferes with other activities, it wouldn't be a big deal, IMO.

ETA: Also, our elementary is the next drive west of our neighborhood and the jr high is directly across from our 'hood.....I bet our kids will be on the bus for 30+ minutes - we're in the far back of the 'hood and have 4 buses for our 'hood for those two schools.

  • Wow!  Is she the first to be picked up and the last to be dropped off?  That seems a bit ridiculous!

  • That does suck. Is there any way you can compromise with her and let her ride it maybe one or two days a week or ride in the a.m./car in p.m. or vice versa?

  • Isn't it ridiculous!  Our bus schedule is always something like that (and my 4th grader has a transfer) so I just drive.

  • Yes, she is the first pickup and last drop off. That's just how it worked out, unfortunately. And we either have commit to using the bus daily (aside from occasional days home sick, etc) or they'll discontinue her stop. I'm sure she'll be a little disappointed, but she'll be fine.

And in the dead of winter when it's still dark out, if I have to bundle up two kids to walk 2 blocks to the bus stop in the snow, I might as well drive her anyway LOL! Honestly, I dont mind driving at all. I just know she was hoping to take the bus. Maybe next year...

  • We live about a half mile from school and DD's bus ride will be 45 min.  Being picked up she will be the 2nd to last, so not too long.

But being dropped off she also needs to be very last.  That's how it works out so she can be dropped off without crossing.  We live on a sort of busy road with no sidewalks and a steel hill - reducing visibility.  If she were dropped off first the door would be on the other side of the road.  While DH or I could get her off, not so confident when grandma is here with the 3 kids.

I teach at the same school, so I will just bring her in with me and home with me most days. Won't get as much work done with a 5 yr old in my business during planning time though...
