She is allergic to peanuts!!

Allergist just called and confirmed that DD is allergic to peanuts. I am really sad about it. I know so many kids are these days, but of course you don't want anything to be wrong and possibly life threatening with your child. I kind of feel sick to my stomach :(:(

  • I'm sorry. :-(  We think ds might be allergic or sensitive to peanut butter, so I know how you feel.

I'm sorry, that is rough. We may be going through the same thing. LO may be allergic, getting tested at the end of this week. Broke out in a rash twice when tried to eat peanut butter.

This is exactly how ours started too! I know it is better to know but I am just kind of devastated! I am happy that all she had was hives/rash but I know reactions can get worse! I am talking to a mom friend who's son is allergic to peanuts among many other things. I hope it will help to hear someone else's story! Good luck to you and your LO!!!!

Thank you! Is there a difference between an allergy and a sensitivity?

  • We have several food allergies too. :(

Don't they say they outgrow them by the time they're 2 a lot of times?

I guess the sensitivity less severe than the allergy, more like stomach aches and such.   I'm not sure what's up with ds, but he gets a few hives every time he has peanut butter, but didn't when he had straight peanuts or things made with peanut oil, like pad thai.  A nurse practitioner said that maybe he just has a sensitivity to that particular brand of peanut butter (Trader Joe's) and isn't allergic.  She suggested I keep him away from peanut butter until he can get tested at his next appointment, although a friend accidently fed him a mini ritz with peanut butter and he was fine, so who knows.

Hmm, ya DD had hives on 2 separate occasions. But she had peanut butter and things mixed with peanuts before and had no problems. I am hoping she just has a sensitivity also. I will still avoid all peanuts but sensitivity sounds better than being allergic :) Good luck!

Yeah, I guess sensitivity means more not feeling so great after eating it, but not being the person who can't breathe in peanut dust on the airplane.
