Purees vs. finger foods...question.

I'm still giving my son purees for the most party but try to give him fingers foods on a daily basis. My dilemma is that he eats 4 ounces of puree but when I try to replace his puree for finger foods, he eats about 5 green beans and is done. I don't count that as a meal so then I bust out the puree because I don't want him to starve.

If your baby eats fingers food (like pancakes for breakfast, for example) does he/she eat enough to where you think it's enough to count as a meal?

Re: Purees vs. finger foods...question.

  • Just remember purees are made with water, so a lot of what is coming out of the jar is not just food. When I first started finger foods with DD, I also gave purees... she ate both, but it seemed like without the puree she wasn't getting enough - my thought was that it was a lot more effort to chew. It was a progression to get to all finger foods. HTH

  • Yes, my DD usually eats enough to count as a meal. She doesn't eat purees at all anymore.

For breakfast she usually eats 1 yogurt and either 1 strip of waffle (not quite 1/4 of the waffle) or some fruit (like 20 blueberries or something). She usually eats a lot for dinner - say 1 meatball, 20 peas, and a few small cubes of squash.

If she only eats a few bites and is done, then I don't count it as a meal.
