TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

HSG WWYD?

I will go in for an HSG next week.  I have the option of getting it done locally and having them send the reading to the RE or I can go to the RE which is about 2 1/2 hrs away.  It will be about $300 cheaper to go to the RE.  I will have to drive myself, DH can't get a day off, at least it doesn't look that way, he might be able to last minute.  Will I be able to handle driving myself home that far?  WWYD?

Re: HSG WWYD?

  • Do you know the area well? Could you maybe sit and have a coffee for half an hour or so  before you start on your way home? Just in case the cramps are bad.

There is a coffee shop and a Cold Stone Creamery just down the street.

I'm pretty sure there should be a rule about rewarding yourself with Coldstone creamery after an HSG :)

My HSG itself hurt but I only had mild cramping afterwards. I've had worse AF cramps in my  life.

  • I live about an hour from my RE and DH works for the govt so he has tons of vacation time and this time he did the driving for me.   The first HSG I had a few years ago I drove myself and actually went back to work afterwards.  I agree with Carrie that the after cramps were'nt unbearable.  The procedure itself is painful, but afterwards it's just like yucky period cramps.  You're a pretty tough lady so you'll be fine, just be sure to take your time and take it slow.  And most definitely reward yourself with some Coldstone Creamery (cake batter preferably, with sprinkles).  Good luck!!!

  • For me the pain was equal to a pap smear with no discomfort afterwards. However, my experience will not necessarily be yours (though I hope it is).

I think Carrie is right. As long as you have a 'just in case' place close by to chill and let some OTC pain meds kick in if need be, you'll be fine.

  • I think you'll be fine....well, I was, but I know some have a much tougher time.

You have to decide if 6 hours of driving is really worth $300 to you though.

  • I had my HSG about 2 years ago right after it I drove to work and spent the rest of the day at  my desk.

The only pain you will possibly feel is if your tubes are blocked and they have to push the liquid to clear them out.

But it's just like a pap you can see on a screen. ( I thought it was cool)

Take some Ibprophen and you should be all set. Good luck!

  • I experienced moderate discomfort during the procedure and had minor cramping afterwards. Nothing that kept me from driving. I think some ice cream and maybe reward shopping will be in order. You k ow, save $300 on the HSG and go splurge! Wink

  • I would go to your RE and save the money. I drove myself home from both of my hsg's and I felt fine afterwards.
