TTC After a Loss

Reading up on IUI

Bec Dr mentioned it as a next step...So the process begins in the same way as my super sweet HSG.  Insert speculum, find cervix.

"Sometimes when the cervix is hard to reach a tenaculum [this is what they had to do @ my HSG] is used to hold the cervix, which makes the process a bit more uncomfortable. A typical "Tomcat" catheter is shown below.

  • Hugs. The things we go through for TTC.

The good news is, it is over really quickly. Much less time than an HSG.

  • I mean, I know I'll do it if Dr suggests it.  But OUCH.  The only thing is my cervix should be lower and more open bec it will be O time, not CD 8.  I really hope that DH gets it together Tongue Tied

Whew, do you thnk it was because of the timing during your cycle?  It was seriously torture...

  • Girl, I really want to smack your husband and tell him to man up.  I know he's struggling too, but I'm so frustrated for you!  I have no IUI advice, but I wish I could squish you up in a big ole hug.

I don't know.  I think some people have issues with the position of their cervix which might make this type of procedure (and the HSG) more uncomfortable.  Now that I think about it, one time they had a little difficulty with the catheter, but I don't think it was my regular RE.  I'm sure you will be fine though - it takes less time than a pap and you don't feel the insemination part at all.

Of course! My ute is an open book...ask away Smile

Tomorrow will be CD5, and I go in tomorrow for the CD5 b/w and u/s (damn holiday weekend).

We're doing a clomid/IUI this month...so will hopefully do the IUI next week (grow follies grow!) And then the next cycle, we're upping the ante to injectables. Due to my DOR, my RE recommended IVF, so doing an insurance-covered injectable cycle will give me chance to see how I respond to the injectables without putting all our eggs (get it..eggs?) in one IVF basket. We'll do the IVF in Jan assuming these cycles are a bust.

LoL, eggs in the IVF basket.  So my question is, why did you go so long between IUI's?

Well, the first IUI was Nov 2009 (BFN). Dec 2009 was out due to the holiday (my RE didn't do any treatments during December.) I did the next IUI in Jan 2010, which was successful. I ended the PG in April 2010. At my 3 week f/u appointment, we got the OK to TTC naturally, but since he had a NTD, my RE wanted to have me take high dose folic acid for three months before the next IUI (since it takes awhile for folic acid to build up to proper levels in your system...some drs recommend waiting a year, but my RE said the three months had good enough success rates). So, the next one was in July (3 months later). I then decided to switch RE's. So, August was a testing month (CD3 b/w, another HSG, etc) with the new RE. So, I'm starting the IUIs back up in September.
