full time day care and naps

Does your LO nap differently on weekends than he or she does at day care?

Ella takes one nap at day care (usually about 2 or 2 1/2 hours), but at home on weekends still takes two naps. I'm not worried about it because her night time sleep patterns are the same every day of the week, but am just curious if this is typical.

  • LO doesn't go to daycare but she will go done for a nap for me during the week just fine but when DH is here she wont nap.  We have to go for a walk or a car ride.  It is like she think she is going to miss something with him here.

  • Most of the kids in the toddler room where I worked still took two naps at home, but only one at daycare.  I'd guess it's because their day is less structured at home, and there's usually less activity so they don't feel like they're missing out on anything by taking a nap.

We're not in daycare obviously, but this makes sense to me.  When Andrew went to one nap we kind of had to push him at first and really keep him occupied with interesting activities.  If we were home, in the car, or doing something boring, he could have gone for 2 naps.

This makes sense to me too.  On days when we have playdates or run a lot of errands L will take one long nap, but on days when we are home all day long it's not uncommon for her, at almost 2, to still take two shorter napes.

  • Definitely makes sense to me to - thanks!

  • Evie does the same thing.  They are only given one nap in the toddler room from 12-1230 to 230.  She usually sleeps the whole time.

On the weekend she still takes 2 sometimes 2+ hour naps.  I think she would take 2 naps everyday if we were home but since she only gets one 5 days a week she rolls with it.

Maybe they play "catch up" on the weekends!  I don't mind because I can get more done!
