1st Trimester

Newbie...sort of (repost)

I am fairly new here and I never post, I just always comment on others.  Anyway, I have no ticker b/c we do not have a due date yet.  I have not had a cycle in FOREVER and I suddenly became pregnant.  We found out about 4 weeks ago, went to the OB and my MW estimated around 4 weeks (that was about 3 weeks ago)  By looking at me you would think further but we will see next week.  This is my 5th pregnancy, I only have 2 living children and I am considered high risk.  I read all of the post of you ladies who are spotting or having strange pains and let me tell you that everything you feel and that you are afraid of is so normal.  I am just happy that you are so aware of your body and you are so concerned.  There are no stupid questions here, no matter what those 2nd and 3rd tri girls think.  I lost 2 babies, one was a 7 week miscarriage and the other was a 20 week stilbirth, which was a gorgeous baby girl.  My other 2 boys were very healthy boys, the 9.6lbs and the other was 10.6 and yes I delivered them both naturally and I stand 5'2 115lbs.  Needless to say, I am very nervous myself so I may have some questions along the way so don't laugh Smile  I just wanted to officially introduce myself and say congrats to you all.

  • I'm sorry for your losses, what a terrible thing to go through over and over.  I wanted to comment on your current situation because I went through a very similar thing the cycle I got pg.  I also wanted to comment on the 1st tri paranoia.

If I'm reading your post right you hadn't had a period (I think) in a long time which is why you can't gauge how far along you are.  My last period was March 1, my BFP was June 9.  When I called my OB June 9, they said I could be anywhere from 4 weeks to 16 weeks.  3 weeks later I was JUST measuring 4 weeks 5 days (no baby just a yolk sac) which sent my paranoia on overdrive.  I did nothing but worry and drive myself crazy with all the things that could be going wrong and fed off of all the other 1st tri's m/c stories and fears.

Of course in hindsight I realize that I accomplished nothing but putting stress on myself and my baby and I wish I could go back and change it.  I agree that the normal fears and concerns can't be taken away and to listen to your body, but when it turns into this paranoid feeding freenzy over here I hope someone can take something away from what I've said and take a step back.  Unfortunately the best thing in 1st tri is to educate yourself and give yourself time.  Pray, meditate, read, distract yourself, whatever works to keep yourself centered and not let all these worries and fears control you.  Even if (god forbid) something terrible is happening, letting that worry of the unknown control you isn't helping...it's still only hurting you.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the whole thing.  I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnnacy.  I do also disagree with there are no stupid questions, but this post isn't a time for that.  I'll make a whole new obnoxious post later about it Stick out tongue

Thank you!  Yeah, I have not had a cycle in god knows how long.  I had an IUD and also took the pill.  I came off both of those August 4th.  Same here, U/S showed a sac and no little one, my levels shot up though over a 48 hr period so there is no concern.  I just hate not knowing how far along especially with my history.  Thank you again though, I appreciate evrything you said.  Good luck to you as well.

Were they able to measure the sac to give you an estimate?  That's how they were able to give me the 4 wks 5 days at the first u/s and ended up being about 5 days off (behind), but it gave me an idea.  Yeah, not knowing is so hard.

  • The sac was so small that she didn't even try, you can see it on the U/S pic but it is realllllly small.  I go again on Monday for a second so they will defiantely see something then.
