Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How much do you pay your babysitter?

I realize it ranges based on location and qualifications, just wondering what people here are paying teenage babysitters for a date night.

  • $12/hr. But she is not a teenager

  • $10/hour and that's a bargain. She's not a teenager, either. I wouldn't leave my child with a teen this young!
  • Wow--where do you people live?

We pay $5/hr but she's not a teenager. She asked for $5 and we were fine with that!

  • $10/hour college woman
  • I've paid by 17 year old cousin $5 an hour... and she was happy with that.  That's also what my 17 year old sister makes when she babysits.

  • 7.50/hr. for a high school student. My husband and I both teach, so we know who we leave our baby with pretty well. We also usually go out at night as opposed for having a babysitter during the day. So we usually end up paying them to babysit for an hour, put our DS in bed and watch TV for a vouple hours.

  • If we used a teenager or a college student, the going rate is $10+/hour. My brother is 18 and we felt like we should pay him because he needs money and is gracious enough to watch the kids, but we give him $7/hour. It's a steal!
  • We pay about $7 an hour - they're college students. One of the girls told me she didn't expect to get paid at all - she just liked hanging out with my son! We're in a small town in the midwest.

  • This post makes me feel ripped off.  I used to babysit back in the day for $2/hour all the time.  Obviously I should have held out for more ;)

My ILs watch DD whenever we are out, and they only require some Delilah cuddles.

  • We've never had to pay a baby-sitter othen than for daycare while we work. Both of our parents and my two sisters all live close, so we have a plethora of baby-sitters willing to do it for free. We had one occasion where none of them could watch her, and we opted not to go out. (DH's decision mainly - I would have paid a baby-sitter.) I'd probably offer $10/hr, or a flat rate, like $50/night.

You know what is funny...well actually not funny at all.  When you hear of a child being abused from a babysitter they almost always are older women and not teenagers.  Just saying.

We pay our college girl $8/hr.  She is amazing.  The longer she is with us the more we will pay her.
