When I have my first appointment (with a brand new doctor) I am curious what I should expect. Will they just do a normal exam with bloodwork and STD testing? I will be 6w3d. I know I can call the office and ask what to expect, but since they're closed, I figured I'd try here first. My DH is willing to come to any appointment and has the clearance from work to do so, but should I bother with him coming to this one?
Re: First Appointment - What to expect?
This exactly. The PAP will be extremely uncomfortable now that your pregnant. You will also pee in a cup and give lots and lots of blood (thats the worst part).

sorry, newbie here - just got my BFP this morning and haven't done an intro post yet, BUT...
when you say "lots and lots of bloodwork" what exactly does that mean? One long pull or multiple needles? Because I seriously pass out (I have fallen off the exam tables before) and can't deal with needles at all.... I'm hoping it is at least only one draw.
I may have to ask my doctor about using the lidocaine cream I have for my PCP to take blood with....
I think everybody might be different in this situation. My PAP wasn't fun by any means but I wouldn't say it was extremely uncomfortable. My nurse did warn me that a lot of women spot afterwards because your cervix is so sensitive but I never had any.
Only one needle stick. They take about 5-6 viles of blood.
Thanks for the info... I pass out even when lying down though.... hopefully my stomach will become a bit stronger over my time being pregnant LOL...
