New to The Bump

Going Crazy!

Hi everyone! I am new to the Bump and I am going crazy not knowing if I am pregnant or not. I know I need to go to the doctor, but I have no insurance and can't really afford to go right now. I did go to the Health Dept. and my urine test was negative (last week). I have taken a few dollar store HPT's, but they have all been negative. My last period started on July 8th and I haven't even had a spot of blood since then. I am having cramps, just no blood. My uterus feels different also. My boobs haven't really been sore, but today my nipples are a little sensitive. I am really bloated (especially at night). I have been waking up with a bad pain in my stomach (like a totally empty feeling). I have had occasional nausea but no vomiting. The past couple of nights I have felt kind of like I have the flu. I am burning up right now. My BF and I have not used any protection since I stopped taking the BCP in May. My June and July periods were totally normal but now nothing! I can't think of anything else that would be making me miss two periods. I'm not stressed any more than usual. My periods have always been regular even before BC. I don't expect anyone to tell me if I am pregnant or not. I am just wondering if there are women out there that continued to have negative HPT's week after week and ended up really being pregnant. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Going Crazy!

  • I'm also going crazy!  I'm in the two week wait with a week to go before I can test.  But enough about my crazy....I've heard it can take months to return to your normal cycle after getting off BC.  If you haven't had a period yet, it's possible that you haven't ovulated.  Of course it's also possible that you did ovulate and you are pregnant.  I know you don't have health insurance, but you may want to see a doctor if you don't have a period by the time you've been off the pill for 6 months.  Planned Parenthood works on a sliding scale.  They might be your first stop just to check and make sure things are looking OK in general.  They might be able to lead you to your next steps.  If you do get your period again, you may want to consider BBT charting.  If you haven't done it before there are charts and directions on this site and many others.  You just need a basal thermometer.  Good luck!

  • Why on earth are you using no protection with no insurance???

if you are having negative HPTs, you are not pregnant, except in an extremely rare case here or there. If you're that concerned, ask for an ultrasound.

I was charting BBT and CM for a couple of months after I stopped BC and then I got busy with school and put it on the back burner. I had two normal periods after coming of the BCP...that is what is confusing me. Oh well, I guess I will just have to wait it out. I wish you luck with everything and thanks for the advice!

I know...I'm crazy right! I have talked to some women that have had negative HPT's and blood tests up until they were 16 weeks. I was just wondering how common it was. The health dept. I go to doesn't do blood tests or U/S. I would love to get a U/S right now just to get an answer because when you hear about all these atypical pregnancies and low Hcg it makes you nuts! If I am pregnant I would be able to get insurance, so that doesn't worry me I just want to know what is going on.

  • It is very uncommon to be pregnant and still have negative tests after 18dpo or so.  My guess is that you ovulated late; it can happen to everyone every now and then.  I would continue to test once a week until you get your period or a BFP.

If you hit day 60 without your period or a positive test, under normal circumstances I'd tell you to call your doctor, but since you don't have insurance, I really don't know what to tell you.

Can I ask how you're planning on paying for prenatal care and delivery costs if/when you get pregnant?

ETA: Just saw your post above.  How are you going to get insurance if you're pregnant??  And getting an u/s now would be pointless.  Even if you are pregnant you wouldn't be able to see anything.

In Tennessee if you get pregnant you get TennCare that covers everything.
