Hi all! I'm new to the boards, due in December, and on bedrest for the last week and a half (and going stir crazy already). I had all these plans for September and October, mostly registering and really diving in to research infant day care. It really stinks that my body isn't holding up the way it should while pregnant. I'm hoping to be able to take 3 months off after the baby is born, but being put unexpectedly on bedrest and not being able to work right now might seriously put a damper on how long I can realistically ask to be off afterwards.
Two questions:
1) Any recommendations for infant day care in and around Ferndale/Royal Oak area?
2) Any idea if there's a website where I could find parent reviews of day cares? Seems as if something like that may exist, but I can't find it. Bedrest or not, I know I'm going to have to visit the various facilities, and soon, as well as request references, but thought I might be able to do some of the research beforehand.
Thanks a lot! Looking forward to getting to know you on the boards. Wish I could make the Cider Mill get together. . . . . . .
Re: Hello, and infant day care
Unfortunately, I can't offer you an advice on the daycare situation. I just wanted to welcome you to the board and say congratulations! I'm sorry you're on bedrest. I can only imagine the toll that it's taking on you emotionally!
On the bright side of things, at least you'll have lots of time to be on "The Bump" now.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.

I'm sorry things aren't going like you hoped, but you'll be proud of yourself when that healthy baby looks up at you thanks to this time you're putting in! Hopefully your employer will be understanding when maternity leave comes along.
I never found a good website with daycare reviews myself, but most places will have parent reviews on their own sites or in paperwork they give you when you visit. They should also be able to provide you with references (they'll all be "happy customers" but it's something). Visiting will help you more than anything when you can. When you call to set up your visits, you might ask how early they recommend you apply/enroll to ensure a spot. Most likely enrollment is low due to unemployed parents these days and you can relax a bit if you can't visit right away.
As far as registering, I found that was better to do online anyway because you can check reviews on BRU and Amazon.
Take it easy, and try to enjoy your pregnant self!
Welcome and congratulations! As far as daycare in the area goes, my daughter will be starting at the Great Lakes Child Development Center (previously called the St. Dennis CDC) in Royal Oak the beginning of October.
While we haven't been attending there yet, I can say that I feel much more at ease about returning to work knowing that she'll be well taken care of. It feels like a small community, which I really like and the staff we've met there are wonderful. We did a couple surprise visits and had my MIL (who was a 1st grade teacher for 30 years) also visit the facility to check them out. We put our name on the waiting list back in April (not sure how long they require though).
I don't know of any websites with parent reviews but the state of Michigan has a site to see the records for any licensed daycare provider. We used that during our search.
Good luck to you!
Sorry about the bedrest, hang in there!!!
I'm a bit partial...but I have a child care center in Hazel Park called "The Garden" (on the 75 service drive just south of 10 mile, we're in the Landmark Community Church Building). We've been open 2.5 years and have excellent parent recomendations. If you want more info I can send you a pack including contact info for current clients. Also you can check out our fb www.facebook.com/thegardenchristianpreschool or website www.thegardenchristianpreschool.com (although that one doesn't get updated as often). We charge $170/week and that includes formula/baby food/wipes if you choose to use the brands we provide. I'm also due in December, I'm taking 6 weeks off after he's born, and when I go back to work he'll be going with me! I have the BEST infant teachers and trust them 100% to take care of my lil guy...and I'm very particular!!! lol
The Great Lakes Child Development Center is good too! I used to work for the owner (Patty) at a center in Clawson. I know several of their teachers, either from working with them at other centers or taking classes at OCC with them...they are really good people! I worked with one of their infant teachers (Mary Lou) for about 3 years and she is absolutely awesome!!! If I didn't have my own program I'd be taking my little guy to her when he gets here for sure! Last time I checked they charged $200 a week...but not sure what all that includes.
I can't in good faith recommend any other programs in this immediate area, most of the ones I have been to are awful! (I don't want to give out their names on the board but PM me if you want to know where NOT to go) I'm sure there are other good ones around this area, but I haven't been to all of em.
Also depending on where you are looking there is Country Days Child Development Center in Clawson, on Main just N of 14. I worked there for a while before opening my program and they are great (I think $190/week)! Also Miss Dee Dee's Daycare in Troy(on 15 Mile east of Main), Dee is a friend, and runs an excellent program (I think about $200/week).
I do not know of any parent review websites, although that would be a great idea!!!
Good luck with your search!!!
