We are having DSs bday party in a community building at a park near our house. We are having about 25 ppl there (10 kids ranging from 1-11). The party is at 12 - ending somewhere around 3ish.
Iwant to do something easy but cheap. I didn't want to do the same thing that we did for his baptism either (hero, ziti and meatballs.)
I also have a SIL that only eats chix/tky - so need something of either of those or vegetarian.
Some of the ideas that I have been tossing around but not sure about what to make for SIL that will go with this...
pulled pork (crock pot), mac and cheese, sausage and peppers...
I would really like to be able to make one thing in the crock pot possibly and then the others that I can either make the night before OR cook that morning and leave warm.
Any ideas...
Re: need help with menu for 1st bday
You could do bbq chicken shredded in the crockpot sandwiches and then another crock pot of homemade baked beans and a pasta salad or lettuce salad. Or just a veggie/fruit tray. I think that is plenty. Maybe some chips if you would like. That way you are hauling maybe 2 crock pots, big bowl of pasta and fruit/veggie trays. You could even ask your mom and MIL to make one of the pasta salads or each make a bowl of pasta salad or the beans.
I've never done BBQ shredded chicken.. what kind of chicken do you use.
I like the idea of 2 crock pots - that will make my life A LOT easier. I only have 1 but I can borrow some.
chicken or turkey meatballs either alone or kinda as a mini slider.
The pulled BBQ chicken as many suggested sound great as well. That could be made ahead of time on the grill, then cut into small pieces added BBQ sauce to the crockpot allowing it to simmer for a couple of hours ahead so it falls apart/shreds really easy with a couple of forks.
Since it's mostly about the kids, 'd try to do most thing in mini size like the mini dogs/pigs in the blanket which you can get at cosco or sams or the like they can also be in the crock post with a sauce or on a tray. For the one party we did, we used aluminum trays over the butane burners which you can buy separately at the above places or even Party City.
Basically if you can do it with hamburger /beef you can do it with chicken/turkey. it just needs more seasoning.
